FUJIFILM Corporation announced the launch, in July, of portable broadcast zoom lens that offers exceptional optical performance for use with 4K cameras. Despite its lightweight and compact design, the latest release, FUJINON UA22x8 (hereinafter UA22x8) is a 22x zoom lens starting from 8mm on the wide-angle side, delivers an advanced level of mobility at the frontline of TV production. UA22x8, is a portable broadcast zoom lens with optical performance compatible with 4K cameras. Using the cutting-edge optical simulation technology, the lens achieves both the 22x zoom and advanced optical performance such as high image resolution, contrast and color reproduction. Covering the focal length from 8mm in wide angle to 176mm in telephoto, the lightweight and compact lens excels in handling versatile situations including live sport coverage, indoor /outdoor program production and news reporting. The floating focus system, which controls multiple lens groups according to the shooting distance, delivers high resolution and high contrast images from close-up to infinity, enabling 4K video production with a high realistic sensation and premium picture quality. With the demand for accurate focusing needed for 4K resolution, Fujinons new focus position demand unit, the EPD-31A, has improved from 12 bit to 16bit encoding. Fujifilm Signs Joint Study Contract with BIOASTER

Fujifilm Corporation has signed a joint study contract for the evaluation of a rapid diagnostic system for the Ebola virus disease, or EVD, with BIOASTER. In order to contain EVD, which is prevailing in Western Africa, and to prevent a wide-scale outbreak of the disease, it is important to identify EVD patients at an early stage and implement initial response measures to break the chain of infection, and optimize use of vaccines and drugs. To this end, there is an urgent need to develop new technology and products for rapid rule-out diagnosis to be used on-the-spot with the patient. The joint study aims to establish a simple, rapid, small-size and portable diagnostic system to quickly detect EVD, with high diagnostic capabilities, comparable to molecular testing. This is to be achieved by combining Fujifilm's high sensitivity virus detection technology with Ebola virus antibodies which are produced and evaluated by BIOASTER, an institution well versed in the field of infectious diseases. This joint study is an international industry-and-government project by Fujifilm and BIOASTER, with both partners striving to solve public health problems around the world. The research will be conducted with cooperation from the French research institutions "CIRI" (joint research unit founded by INSERM, ENS de LYON, CNRS and UCBL) and the Jean Mrieux Biosafety Level 4 Laboratory in Lyon.
