Fairview Health Services, Inc. Names James Hereford as President and CEO Effective Dec. 12, 2016

Fairview Health Services has named Stanford Health Care executive James Hereford its president and CEO effective Dec. 12, 2016. Hereford will succeed David Murphy, a former Red Wing Shoes CEO and past General Mills Inc. executive who has served as interim CEO for about a year and a half. Hereford is chief operating officer at Stanford Health. That organization and its Stanford Hospital, along with Stanford University's medical school and a children's hospital, fall under the under the umbrella of Stanford Medicine. In the COO role, Hereford oversees inpatient and ambulatory care operations. Before joining Stanford Health, Hereford was COO at Palo Alto Medical Foundation, a nonprofit health care research group. As interim CEO, Murphy led Fairview through several big changes, including the health system's acquisition of PreferredOne and an attempted merger with University of Minnesota Physicians.

Merger With U of M Physicians Would Bid Farewell To Fairview Name

Fairview Health Services, Inc. to merge with the physician group of University of Minnesota Physicians. The Fairview brand name would disappear from Twin Cities medical facilities under merger talks authorized Friday by the University of Minnesota’s Board of Regents that would combine the Fairview clinic and hospital system with the physician group of the U’s hospital and Medical School.
