Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. announced its third wave of store openings as it converts 25 grocery stores it acquired from the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. The locations Stop & Shop acquired include nine Long Island stores. The third wave of grand openings is planned for Oct. 30, and includes the Waldbaum's in Huntington, along with locations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Howard Beach and Flushing, Queens, as well as Kinnelon, New Jersey. The stores closed on October 22, 2015 for renovations.

Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. planned to open its first converted A&P locations on Long Island and begin conversions on a second wave of stores. Stop & Shop will convert a total of 25 grocery stores it acquired from the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., including nine locations on Long Island. It is closing the stores for about a week before reopening under the Stop & Shop banner. Stores expected to open include the Waldbaum's stores in East Hampton and Southampton, along with locations in the Bronx, Ozone Park, Queens, and Brooklyn. The second wave of Stop & Shop grand openings is planned for Oct. 23 and includes the Pathmark in Greenvale, along with locations in the Bronx, Springfield Gardens and Howard Beach in Queens, and South Orange, New Jersey. During the process, groups of up to five stores will close for about 7 days, but pharmacies and banks within the locations will remain open. The stores will reopen as Stop & Shops and have new decor, refrigeration systems and lighting, as well as other improvements. Modifications at all of the stores are expected to be completed by November 13, 2015. Aside from the stores in Greenvale and the Hamptons, the other Long Island stores bought by Stop & Shop include Waldbaum's locations in Baldwin, Hicksville Road in Massapequa, Long Beach and Huntington; and Pathmarks in Seaford and Franklin Square.

The Stop & Shop New England Division announced that Russ Greenlaw, Senior Vice President of Operations for Stop & Shop New England, will be leaving the Division to take on a new Special Projects role for Ahold USA, starting June 1. Stacy Wiggins, who currently serves as Regional Vice President of Operations for GIANT/MARTIN'S, will succeed Mr. Greenlaw once he starts his new position. In addition to her work with GIANT/MARTIN'S, Ms. Wiggins has also worked for Giant Landover, Stop & Shop New York Metro and Walmart. In addition, Vinod Israni is being promoted to the role of Regional Vice President for Region 1. Mr. Israni has been with Stop & Shop New England since 2000, serving as District Director, Service Manager and Store Manager. Also, Mark McGowan is now serving as President of the Stop & Shop New England Division and Executive Vice President of Operations for Ahold USA, reporting to Ahold USA Chief Operating Officer James McCann. This planned change was originally announced in March. Mr. McGowan most recently served as Executive Vice President of Merchandising for Ahold USA. He was president of the Stop & Shop New England Division before taking on new responsibilities at Ahold USA in 2012.
