MontaVista Software, LLC Announces Support of Docker Virtualization Technology in its Carrier Grade Edition 7 on ARM Processors
Oct 1 14
MontaVista Software, LLC announced support of Docker(R) virtualization technology in its Carrier Grade Edition 7 (CGE7) on ARM processors. As part of CGE7's advanced virtualization technology, MontaVista now supports Docker(R)as an alternative method to a hypervisor for virtualizing applications. MontaVista already supports traditional LXC containers, and has done so for many years. Docker(R)provides a method of container virtualization without the need for a hypervisor, and addresses a number of concerns that container technology had around security and multi-tenant isolation. With Docker(R)and CGE7, Enterprise and Service Provider customers can now use an alternative virtualization method to meet strict networking requirements around high performance, security and reliability -- something traditional hypervisor solutions were not always able to collectively meet.
MontaVista Announces MV Cloud Support for the Cavium ThunderX(TM) Workload Optimized Processor Family
Jun 11 14
MontaVista Software, LLC announced the availability of the MV Cloud platform for the ThunderX SoC product family from Cavium Inc. MV Cloud is built upon MontaVista's seventh generation CGE7 product, a high availability Carrier Grade Linux operating system that is optimized for networking performance and operation in embedded, low latency environments. MV Cloud enables rapid deployment of a highly reliable and high performance cloud platforms that are open, extensible with a rich application ecosystem. A MV Cloud extends support for a massive ecosystem of open source and third party software that includes KVM, OpenvSwitch (OVS), Open Data Plane (ODP), Openstack and Open DayLight. In addition, MV Cloud offers significant key differentiating features that include: Hypervisor layer that provides realtime-deterministic latency response and optimized capabilities for resource utilization and reservation for virtualized environment. A Tools for Analytics, debugging and Traceability across the layers of the entire Cloud platform. A Application context and intelligence through a fully integrated Policy Management framework. A OSS/BSS integration specifically customized for virtualized loads built on top of Cloud environments like NFV. A Optimization and improved latency for Cloud RAN use cases. A Cloud platform intelligence for providing function and service offload in the hardware. Together these features provide a focused fit for NFV, Cloud RAN and SDN customers.
MontaVista Introduces MV Cloud
Feb 24 14
MontaVista Software, LLC introduced MV Cloud, MontaVista's new high performance Carrier Grade Cloud platform that enables telco and service providers with a highly reliable, cloud platform for building out cloud services and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solutions. Network users are demanding telcos and service providers to provide infrastructure to deploy, start, tear-down and scale network applications on a dynamic basis. To meet these needs and reduce infrastructure and operational costs telcos and service providers are implementing and deploying telco-grade cloud and NFV architectures. Telco-grade clouds are an evolution of enterprise clouds with additional requirements of high-availability, reliability and high-performance networking. NFV architectures require a virtualized, high-performance networking platform that supports high-availability and reliability. MV Cloud enables a rapid deployment of a robust, highly reliable, high performance cloud platform that is open, extensible and rich in application ecosystem. MontaVista's MV Cloud Platform is built upon a highly available Carrier Grade Linux Operating System that is optimized for networking performance. MV Cloud makes use of standard IT API, a first in Carrier Linux, extends a massive ecosystem of 3(rd) party software such as Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), Open Data Plane (ODP), OpenStack, and Open DayLight. In addition, the MV Cloud platform provides features that take into account multiple operational aspects when deploying a cloud, or NFV solution. Some of these aspects include important features like Enhanced Live Migration for example, which allows for in service migration of Virtual Functions (VF) without service disruption.
