In December 1999, Zions Co-operative Mercantile Institution was acquired by The May Department Stores Company. Zions Co-operative Mercantile Institution, prior to the merger, was engaged in the retail line of business, operating both full-line conventional department stores, and men's and women's ready to wear specialty stores and outlet stores. The full-line stores were located in downtown Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah; and in regional shopping centers in the suburban Salt Lake City, Orem, Logan, Sandy, Layton, and St. George, Utah areas, as well as in Pocatello and Idaho Falls, Idaho. The specialty and outlet stores were located in Provo and St. George, Utah.
