Mentor announced an update to its embedded product portfolio with broad coverage for the Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC ZCU102 Evaluation Kit. This release provides developers with support for the unique combination of multicore processors on the MPSoC development platform with Mentor Embedded Linux, Nucleus RTOS, Mentor Embedded Hypervisor, Code Sourcery tools and Android support. With this release, Mentor Embedded multicore solutions provide the industry's most comprehensive support for the MPSoC to facilitate the development of complex heterogeneous multicore systems. The Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC represents the next generation of multicore platforms for compute-intensive, safety and security systems. Mentor's embedded software and tools portfolio provides MPSoC developers with a one-stop-shop for all their software needs. Mentor Embedded Linux (MEL) is a commercially supported, extensible Linux platform based on the industry standard Yocto Project Running in over 3 billion devices, the Nucleus ® real-time operating system (RTOS) is a proven, highly-scalable real-time operating system designed to meet the most rigorous performance metrics. Both MEL and the Nucleus RTOS can run natively on the MPSoC Cortex-A53 cores in Asymmetric Multi-Processing (AMP) mode, across all Cortex-A53 cores in Symmetric Multi-Processing (SMP) mode, or as a guest OS on Mentor Embedded Hypervisor. The Mentor Embedded Multicore Framework (MEMF) allows developers to configure and deploy multiple operating systems across heterogeneous Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC processors with or without a hypervisor. The framework supports seamless inter-process communication between MEL, Nucleus RTOS, and bare metal. With the Mentor Embedded Multicore Framework, MEL as the master operating system can boot and shut-down other MEL instances running on Cortex-A53 cores, and Nucleus RTOS or bit manipulation engine (BME)-based applications running on Cortex-A53 or Cortex-R5 cores. The Mentor Embedded Hypervisor (MEHV) is small-footprint, type 1 hypervisor designed to meet the design requirements for open source flexibility, real-time performance, and adherence to industry standards. The framework of MEHV supports Cortex-A53 multicore processor architectures in AMP, SMP or a combination of both. The product portfolio includes Sourcery Codebench to provide a single development environment for all the MPSoC cores and runtimes based on GCC/G++ tools. Sourcery CodeBench with integrated Sourcery Analyzer provides developers with a development environment to create and optimize embedded Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ Linux, RTOS, hypervisor, and bare metal based applications.
Mentor Announces the New Release of FloTHERM Product

Mentor, a Siemens business, has announced the new release of FloTHERM product, a computational fluid dynamics software for electronics cooling simulation. The latest product offers new functionality aimed at increasing user effectiveness and productivity. The FloTHERM product includes Command Center, which allows users to understand the product design space by defining variations of the base models. The Command Center design window streamlines the interface and user work to achieve productivity gains. Addressing the needs of industries which demand product reliability including automotive, aerospace, and electronics, the FloTHERM product quickly identifies potential thermal problems early in the design stage to significantly lower the costs of thermal testing and design re-work, enabling customers to get their products to market more quickly. The Command Center is used to create and solve variants of a FloTHERM model. This enables a complete understanding of the product design space and allows the thermal engineer to make informed design decisions. Automatic design optimization tools can be deployed in Command Center to systematically design aspects of the product. The Command Center also supports calibration tasks using T3Ster thermal characterization-based models for even more accurate thermal simulations. The new functionality in the Command Center tool is based on customer feedback for usability and productivity and introduces several critical features that make scenario definition and design space exploration intuitive and fast: easy-to-find objects, attributes and settings. The new FloTHERM release provides additional features for productivity and accurate thermal simulation, including: support for phase Change Materials; industry standard ODB++ data can now be used to bring printed circuit board designs into FloTHERM. FloTHERM will now fit alongside any PCB layout tool in the design flow; blind and buried vias are fully supported in PCB model definition; and improved parallel solver that produces faster and more scalable results for a broader range of applications. Encapsulated PCMs have become a common thermal solution for consumer applications, and have been difficult to simulate in the past. FloTHERM now accepts latent heat and melt temperature as inputs and utilizes these values automatically in transient applications. The impact of PCMs on component and touch temperatures can now be fully explored and optimized in FloTHERM.

Mentor Graphics Corporation announced the availability of Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) for the Xilinx® Zynq® UltraScale+ MPSoC. By combining the features of the Mentor® Embedded software solutions and the Xilinx heterogeneous multiprocessor system-on-a-chip (SoC), developers can safely introduce Android into advanced applications targeting the industrial, medical, automotive, and aerospace and defense markets. This Android implementation includes the Mentor ® Android 6.0 board support package (BSP) built on the Android Open Source Project, as well as source code and pre-compiled binaries for the Xilinx ZCU102 development platform. Graphics output can be routed to the built-in Display Port, or to an Ozzy display and I/O module offered by iVeia. The Android software is available for immediate, no-charge download directly from the Mentor Embedded Systems Division. Users can leverage the Android support community, or they can engage directly with Mentor for support, customization, or extension for new versions of the Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC family of devices. Embedded developers can mitigate risk, realize time and cost savings, and create graphics using this solution. Advanced designs running both the Android and Mentor® Nucleus® real-time operating systems (RTOS) are made possible by unique Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC features. These features include a dual- or quad-core ARM® Cortex®-A53 application processor for operating systems such as Android, a dual-core ARM Cortex-R5 real-time processor, FPGA logic, and Xilinx IP, which allow specific peripherals and memory regions to be uniquely assigned to each processor type. By enabling Android side-by-side with the Nucleus RTOS, the Mentor Embedded Hypervisor, the Mentor Embedded Linux® platform, and the Mentor Embedded Multicore Framework, engineers can meet fundamental software requirements for advanced heterogeneous safety-critical designs.
