TCS Partners with Royal College of Art to Establish UK Design Innovation Lab
May 28 15
Tata Consultancy Services has entered into partnering with the Royal College of Art to establish a design innovation lab to help foster design and technology innovation in the UK. The TCS-RCA design innovation lab will develop and deliver joint research projects at the confluence of design, technology and business, with the goal of filing joint patents and publications. The Lab, located on the RCA's South Kensington campus in Central London, will also be able to host students on internships and researchers on sabbaticals. The TCS-RCA design innovation lab will also act as a showcase centre for leading work from RCA students, TCS customers and partners and as a venue for workshops and industry events. The facility is currently under development and is due to open, officially in September 2015. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, TCS customers will have the opportunity to gain access to the RCA's academic expertise and advice for design projects. A number of joint projects are already being worked on by TCS and the RCA, including development of a contactless payment concept for a TCS customer and studies focusing on the use of design within insurance and retail.
Exa Corporation, Tata Motors European Technical Centre PLC and Royal College of Art Collaborate to Teach State-Of-The-Art, Efficient Automotive Design
Aug 13 13
Exa Corporation recently joined forces with the Tata Motors European Technical Centre PLC and Royal College Of Art to offer an innovative project to educate post-graduate automotive design students on the importance of simulation-driven design and its critical role in today's automotive industry. Taught by automotive industry design leaders using cutting-edge Exa PowerFLOW(R) simulations, RCA students gained unique insight into the design challenges facing today's automotive manufacturers--creating aerodynamically efficient yet exciting designs. The project offered a select group of RCA students the opportunity to turn their sketches into digital 3D designs and evaluate them using Exa's PowerFLOW software for aerodynamic simulation. Exa and the RCA recognize the importance of educating the designers of the future.
