Koch Agronomic Services and Climate Corp Enter Research Data Agreement
Mar 21 17
The Climate Corporation and Koch Agronomic Services announced on March 21, 2017, a research agreement that the two firms believe will provide a significant step forward in applying data-driven digital tools to support more efficient nutrient management practices for farmers. For its part, Koch has agreed to provide product research data to the Climate Corporation to use in the development of the data science models that power the company's digital agriculture platform, known as Climate FieldView. These advanced models feed Climate's nitrogen monitoring tools, which help farmers build customised management plans for each field to optimise inputs and maximise productivity. With the addition of Koch Agronomic Services' product data, farmers will be able to select the product they applied in each field in their Climate FieldView account, along with the type of nitrogen fertilizer applied, making nitrogen insights even more personalised.
Alphabet Reportedly In Advance Talks To Sell Terra Bella For Around $300 million
Jan 25 17
Alphabet Inc. (NasdaqGS:GOOGL) is in advance talks to sell Terra Bella to Planet Labs Inc. or The Climate Corporation. Sources tell TechCrunch that Alphabet is in advanced discussions to sell its Terra Bella satellite business to Planet Labs. Alphabet also considered a sale to at least one other company, Monsanto’s Climate Corporation, for around $300 million. TechCrunch sources say that the deal is in progress and have provided other details. The transaction, one source said, is “essentially already done” and will involve employees as well as satellite assets. We’ve not heard a firm price. Aside from the $300 million figure we heard, another described Terra Bella as essentially being “donated” to Planet. Both Alphabet and Planet Labs declined to comment. Climate Corporation response is awaited.
The Climate Corporation Plans to Expand Climate FieldView Digital Agriculture Platform
Jan 5 17
The Climate Corporation announced plans to expand its Climate FieldView™ digital agriculture platform into new international geographies over the next few years. Climate’s announcement follows Monsanto’s annual R&D pipeline update. The science behind the company’s widely adopted Climate FieldView platform leverages data from the soil, field and atmosphere to help farmers better understand field variability and customize their agronomic practices to get the most out of every acre. In less than two growing seasons, the Climate FieldView platform has quickly become the most broadly connected platform in the United States and has continued to expand into new global regions, including recent expansion into Canada and Brazil. In November, the company acquired VitalFields, a European farm management software company based in Tallinn, Estonia, marking the company’s first step into the European market. The company plans to bring the Climate FieldView platform to Europe, South Africa, Australia and Argentina over the next few years.
