International Franchise Association Appoints Michael Layman as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs

The International Franchise Association announced the addition of Michael Layman, a seasoned government relations and public policy professional as Vice President of Regulatory Affairs. Prior to joining the IFA on a permanent basis, Layman worked for IFA in an Of Counsel capacity on workforce policy issues since September 2014. Formerly, Layman was a senior manager with Littler's Workplace Policy Institute. He also worked at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as Manager of Employment and Labor Policy from January 2007 to August 2013. Layman advanced SHRM's views on employment, labor relations and civil rights legislation with Congressional offices and the Administration, leading multiple national coalitions on employment and labor policy.

Mark McSteen has been named Vice President of Franchisee Engagement and Industry Relations at the International Franchise Association. McSteen will report directly to IFA President and CEO Steve Caldeira, CFE, and will serve on the IFA Senior Management Team. He joins the IFA after 32 years with Marriott International where for the past 13 years he served as vice president, Owner and Franchise Services.

Choice Hotels International Inc. announce that its president and CEO, Steve Joyce, has assumed the chairmanship of the International Franchise Association (IFA). With a career in the lodging industry spanning over three decades, Joyce has led Choice Hotels since 2008, and has a proven track record of developing and growing some of the best-known hotel brands in markets worldwide. Joyce has long been involved in the lodging and franchise industries and the global business community. Joyce comes into the role of IFA chairman after previously serving as IFA's Vice Chairman. A long-standing IFA member, Joyce has held many additional leadership roles, including serving in the leadership chairs since 2011 and a board member since 2001, IFA Educational Foundation Executive Committee first vice chairman (2012-2013) and Franchisor Forum chairman (2003-2010). He has served on multiple IFA committees that provide guidance to the organization, including chairing the Long Range Planning Committee in 2009, as well as chairing the IFA 2014 Convention Committee.
