Volkswagen Group Rus to Cut Workforce at Kaluga-Based Plant

Volkswagen Group Rus will lay off some 600 workers at its plant in the Russian city of Kaluga. Specifically the company will not extend contracts with 150 employees that are set to expire before long. Besides, some workers can be dismissed under a settlement agreement that envisages compensation. The headcount cut is ascribed to a shorter workweek at the plant. It will work four days a week from April till June, with Friday being an idle day. The plant will also suspend work during the May holidays, in particular on May 5-8 and May 12-15.

Volkswagen reported revenue results for the full year of 2013. For the year, revenue fell 7% to RUB 241 billion.

Volkswagen announced investment of EUR 80 million in construction of new shop in Kaluga plant. The company 'Volkswagen Group Rus' has completed the construction of a new body shop at the plant in Kaluga. Investments in the plant construction were EUR 19 million, in equipment - EUR 60 million. Body shop is intended also for the production of a new model - Skoda Rapid, the production of which started in Kaluga.
