Genesys Announces Deeper Relationship with Skype to Bring Rich Video Support

Genesys announced a deeper relationship to bring rich video support from Skype for Business to the Genesys Customer Experience Platform to further transform and personalize customer experience. Additionally, in a move further strengthening its long-standing relationship with Genesys, Microsoft is in the process of deploying a cloud-based contact center from Genesys for its own global contact center, which is anticipated to be one of the contact center systems that will extend the Skype for Business PBX, conferencing and messaging system already used daily by approximately 100,000 Microsoft employees globally. The companies also announced that the Multimedia Connector for Skype for Business adapter is available in the Genesys AppFoundry, a newly available marketplace focused on customer experience solutions.

Skype Launches Video Messaging App

Skype unveiled a new app enabling users to send short video messages to stay "connected between calls." The smartphone app called Skype Qik allows users to create and send videos up to 42 seconds long. The new service seeks to help Microsoft catch up to rivals in the fast-growing mobile messaging space. It takes some features from Twitter's Vine -- which allows six-second videos -- and the ephemeral messaging service Snapchat. With Qik, the messages disappear in two weeks, while Snapchats are gone after being viewed. The Qik app is available for phones using Apple's iOS, the Google Android platform and Microsoft's own Windows Phone.
