Caringo Announces Caringo® SwarmNFS, Lightweight File Protocol Converter
Aug 23 16
Caringo announced Caringo® SwarmNFS, the first lightweight file protocol converter to bring the benefits of scale-out object storage 'including built-in data protection, high-availability, and powerful metadata' to NFSv4. Unlike cumbersome file gateways and file connectors, SwarmNFS is a stateless Linux® process that integrates directly with Caringo Swarm 'allowing mount points to be accessed across campus, across country or across the world. The patent-pending technology delivers a truly global namespace across NFSv4, S3, HDFS, and SCSP/HTTP, delivering data distribution and data management at scale without the high cost and complexity of legacy solutions. The power behind SwarmNFS lies in the innovative patent-pending protocol conversion approach that streams data in parallel between native NFSv4 applications and Caringo Swarm scale-out storage. This eliminates the need for spooling and staging, significantly reducing the disk, CPU and RAM needed for native file support. Additionally, this approach eliminates the bottlenecks present in existing connector and gateway solutions. The result is a stateless process that can be rapidly deployed and requires a fraction of the hardware resources of a gateway. SwarmNFS enables new use cases for object storage. Organizations can use existing native NFS file-based applications without the need to customize them first. This allows users to reap the benefits of a limitless pool of scale-out storage with built-in data protection in areas including content distribution, video surveillance, research, big data, digital curation and document management. Among the benefits of SwarmNFS are: improves productivity with data portability between NFSv4, S3, SCSP, HTTP and HDFS protocols; uses 80% less resources (compared to gateway and connector solutions) with no single points of failure; brings the power of metadata to files, eliminating the need for a metadata database; and lowers Total Cost of Ownership of data distribution at scale with the benefits of Swarm object storage.
Caringo Launches Swarm on Microsoft Azure
Jan 13 16
Caringo announced the immediate availability of its Swarm object storage software on Microsoft Azure, enabling rapid deployment of highly reliable, scalable and compliant storage to developers and enterprises in any of the worldwide network of managed data centers that Azure offers. Now, applications using Amazon S3 can seamlessly move to Azure using Caringo Swarm. When combined with Azure, Swarm provides an instant global infrastructure designed for the Cloud Age and beyond by integrating with Windows or NetApp file servers and using policy-based movement to provide an infinite tier of storage. Once on Swarm, files can be combined and protected in a searchable pool for continued use and complex analysis. Caringo Swarm is an excellent choice for organizations subject to regulatory compliance as it offers built-in features such as WORM, integrity seals, and legal hold.
Caringo's Swarm Now Supports for Hewlett Packard Enterprise's Helion OpenStack
Nov 10 15
Caringo announced that its Caringo Swarm software-defined object software is now fully tested and supported for Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) Helion OpenStack® as part of the HPE Helion Ready Program for Solution Providers. Caringo Swarm is software-defined object storage built to control any volume, flow or size of unstructured information, dramatically reducing complexity while extracting maximum value and performance from HPE hardware. Caringo Swarm for HPE Helion OpenStack plugs into Swift and replaces the Swift object server with Swarm. HPE Helion OpenStack Swift accounts, containers, authentication and access controls are maintained, enabling seamless integration of Swarm with OpenStack's compute and imaging components. Swarm for HPE Helion OpenStack gives organizations a robust, fully supported, easy-to-manage and deploy object store while still benefiting from the progress the OpenStack community is achieving. The HPE Helion Ready Program offers a catalog of ISV and SaaS solutions across industry workloads tested to run on HPE Helion OpenStack and the HPE Helion Development Platform. This program allows customers to confidently deploy HPE Helion OpenStack in heterogeneous environments with hardware and software solutions that are tested and supported.
