In a statement to the Bahraini bourse, Batelco General Manager of corporate affairs Ahmad Hussein Al Janahi said, "'having explored received interest, the Batelco Board of Directors has decided that it is in the best interest of stakeholders to retain its full ownership of Umniah and not to progress any further with the sale process.

Batelco Cancels Plans To Sell Umniah

Bahrain Telecommunications Company BSC (BAX:BATELCO) has cancelled its plans to sell Umniah Mobile Company PSC. Chief Executive Officer Ihab Hinnawi said, "We're going to terminate the sale process." He adds, "It's not an optimal time to sell, it's an optimal time to buy. Prices are reducing, the appetite of so many big players is declining and many are over-leveraged. We have a healthy balance sheet ... we shouldn't let go of an asset that has added a lot of value."
