SoundHound Inc. Key Developments

SoundHound Inc. Collaborates with NVIDIA to Bring Deep Learning-Based Natural Language Understanding to Cars

SoundHound Inc. announced a collaboration with NVIDIA to create a large-vocabulary, hybrid voice and natural language understanding interface for in-vehicle infotainment systems that is based on deep learning. The solution uses the fastest and most efficient Speech Recognition Engine from Houndify, the NVIDIA DRIVE platform, and SoundHound Inc.s patented technologies for running dual mode speech recognition simultaneously in the cloud and in the embedded system. With the Houndify integration, drivers can interact with more than 100 domains, programs that provide users with relevant information or actions related to their queries. These include, among other applications: directions, weather, stock prices, sports scores, flight status, local business searches, and hotel searches with complex criteria. They can also control a car's systems, such as heating/cooling, rolling the windows up and down, playing music, or accessing a phone.

SoundHound Inc. Launches Houndify

SoundHound Inc. launched Houndify, the advanced developer platform that enables anyone to seamlessly create a smart, voice-enabled, conversational interface with the company’s technology. Houndify enables developers to revolutionize their products and services. Several partner companies, including Expedia.com and AccuWeather, have committed to providing their own data and APIs to the Houndify platform, so developers can integrate with their services. Houndify initially unveiled its private beta program in June, and quickly received thousands of applications, ranging from large enterprises to individual developers. The platform is now open to anyone. Third-party products can easily integrate Houndify’s unprecedented technology advantages, including: Speech-to-Meaning technology, which simultaneously combines voice recognition and natural language understanding, resulting in extremely fast and accurate voice interaction experiences. Context understanding and follow-up questions, including awareness of location or prior queries, which results in a flow of natural interactions instead of halting, keyword based interaction. Complex and compound queries, meaning users can ask multiple questions at once with results filtered or in sequence. Additionally, Houndify’s platform design provides these advantages: Cross-platform SDKs: Houndify provides software development kits (SDKs) across many popular operating systems and platforms, including iOS, Android, Windows, Unix, Raspberry Pi, and others, giving unparalleled speed-to-market and the ability to scale. Rapidly increasing domain access: Houndify offers developers access to a rapidly growing number of published and private 'domains,' which are programs that provide users with relevant information or actions related to their queries, from home automation, to car control, to local search, to weather, to sports and beyond. Developers seeking to Houndify their products and services will be able to access domains and API data provided by SoundHound Inc. and from the following launch partners, with several anticipated partnerships to be announced in the coming months: Expedia.com: hotel, flight and vacation booking data; AccuWeather: local weather information and forecasts; Sportradar: pre-match, live and post-match data for more than 50 sports; Xignite: deep stock market information; FlightStats: real-time flight data and airport information; and Open Exchange Rates: real-time currency exchange rates. The first application to showcase the Houndify platform is SoundHound Inc.’s own voice search and assistant app, Hound. Hound launched in June and is currently live on Android and iOS through an invite-only private beta program.

SoundHound Inc. Introduces Hound, Unprecedented Speech Recognition + Natural Language Understanding and Houndify Developer Platform

SoundHound Inc. announced the launch of Hound. Hound is a mobile voice interface, downloadable as an app, which gives users the ability to speak naturally and get deep results to what they ask for, such as looking up the weather, placing a phone call, sending a text message, finding a hotel that matches their detailed criteria, navigating to an address, finding their flight status, checking the stock market, searching and playing music, and even playing interactive games. While older voice services use word and phrase detection to generate search results, Hound combines voice recognition and natural language understanding in real-time to deliver the fast and most accurate results seen on a mobile voice service to-date. Hound is now in private beta for Android, with a launch on iOS coming soon. Three specific technology underpinnings make Hound unique: A brand new technology that combines speech recognition and natural language understanding simultaneously and in real-time. Compared to traditional approaches that perform speech recognition first, then send the result to a search or understanding engine, Hound’s Speech-to-Meaning engine delivers unprecedented speed and accuracy. The ability to handle complex, natural language sentences, including compound criteria, exclusions and negation. This empowers users to speak more naturally, and be more detailed and specific, versus speaking in key-word fragments. The ability to evolve more rapidly through SoundHound Inc.’s new developer platform, Houndif. This allows rapid development cycles, inclusion of new domains, and the ability to scale faster than traditional voice technology solutions. In turn, users will be able to Hound even more topics, experience interactive information search, and even play voice-enabled games. Hound can become second-nature to those seeking reliable, accurate and quick search results, and doing assistant-like tasks such as navigating, sending email and text messages, and setting an alarm or a timer. Hound is not a personality, but instead a verb that enables a swift and intuitive interface alternative to typing, tapping and swiping. Hound will launch with an arsenal of 'domains,' with general web search considered one domain. Others include everyday use-case tasks or searches such as: navigation, local search, weather, stocks, hotels, time zones, geography, news, photo and video search, mortgage calculation, currency conversion, flight status, and many more. With the vision to enable other apps, connected devices, and, ultimately, the Internet of Things, SoundHound Inc. also introduced Houndify, a developer platform to create a smart, voice-enabled, conversational interface to anything. The Houndify platform is simple for developers to use and enables them to leverage SoundHound Inc.’s Speech-to-Meaning technology and deploy their experiences across all major platforms. This means that innovators across major industries such as automotive, retail, quick-serve restaurants, consumer electronics, entertainment, finance, and medical devices, as well as individual developers who build mobile apps, can leverage the technology behind Hound. Once integrated with the voice interface capability, their respective product, service or experience becomes Houndified.
