Narragansett Electric Company Seeks Proposals for Supply of RECs in Rhode Island to Meet the Renewable Energy Standard as Envisaged by Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission

National Grid USA announced a request for proposals April 16 to meet the renewable energy standard as envisaged by the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission. National Grid via subsidiary Narragansett Electric Co. is seeking suppliers for 8,000 renewable energy certificates, or RECs, from existing and 19,000 RECs from new energy resources for the year 2014. The company is additionally seeking 23,000 RECs from existing and 19,000 RECs from new energy resources for 2015. Said RECs need to be generated from renewable facilities in Rhode Island, New England and surrounding regions that have been approved by the PUC. Under Rhode Island's renewable energy standard, National Grid is required to source 8.5% of its electric sales from new and existing renewable resources for calendar years 2014 and 2015. Existing facilities consist of renewable projects that commercial operation before Dec. 31, 1997; new facilities consist of renewable projects that began commercial operation after Dec. 31, 1997.
