Mosaic Global Holdings Inc. Announces Earnings and Operating Results for the Third Quarter of 2014
Oct 30 14
Mosaic Global Holdings Inc. announced earnings and operating results for the third quarter of 2014. The company posted a sharp rise in third quarter net earnings and revenue versus the year-ago period as higher phosphate margins offset increased raw material costs, logistical issues and lower grain prices. The company reported net earnings of $202 million, up from $124 million in the year-ago quarter when notable items reduced net profit by $95 million. Net sales were $2.3 billion, up from $1.9 billion last year and the producer's gross margin climbed to $415 million from $387 million in the year-ago period due to higher phosphate and potash sales volumes. Operating earnings almost doubled from the year-ago quarter's $144 million to $277 million.
The company's finished phosphate production was 2.5 million tonnes, or 85% of current operational capacity, up from 2.1 million tonnes, or 88% of operational capacity, a year ago. Quarterly potash production was 1.7 million tonnes, or 62% of operational capacity, down from 2 million tonnes, or 73% of operational capacity, a year ago due to turnarounds and weather-related downtime at the Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan, mines.
Mosaic to Shed over 500 Jobs over the Next 12 Months
May 6 14
Mosaic announced that it is reducing its workforce by over 500 jobs over the next 12 months as part of a company's strategy to eliminate $500 million in costs over a five-year period. The company announced that the approximately 550 job cuts will come not from the production segment of the business but rather from a combination of layoffs, attrition, early retirement and reducing contractors. Two areas that will account for a portion of the job cuts are the units in Chile and Argentina, which are being divested, and mining operations in Florida, which have reached the end of production cycles.
