Spirent Communications and octoScope Announce Solution for Performance Testing of Wi-Fi and Other Wireless Technologies in a Repeatable RF Environment

Spirent Communications announced an agreement to deliver a complete Spirent Landslide Wi-Fi and octoScope system supporting real access points and real client devices in the octoBox testbed. The octoBox testbed supports coexistence of multiple wireless technologies such as LTE and 802.11ac Wave-2 including MU-MIMO while providing controllable a real-life RF environment. The octoBox testbed automates common wireless tests such as throughput vs. range, roaming and coexistence in a completely isolated environment under controlled conditions with common real-life impairments such as interference, path loss and multipath. The Landslide octoBox wireless testbed is a powerful integration of the worlds most sophisticated protocol level Wi-Fi and multi-UE traffic generator with a completely isolated and real-life RF environment. By emulating thousands of UEs (User Equipment) and APs (Access Points) on the access side, Landslide provides extensive support for testing Wi-Fi offload gateways and controllers deployed in carrier and enterprise environments. Integrated with the octoBox STACK wireless testbed, the Landslide octoBox solution combines protocol layer with MIMO-OTA throughput testing. Wireless testing requires a controlled, automated, and repeatable RF environment and testbed building blocks that can challenge and analyze the complex wireless adaptation algorithms. The octoScope anechoic chambers are an essential part of all RF testing and recommended for any OTA or conducted test setup to ensure reliable and consistent results. Landslide is aimed at WLAN control plane and scalability testing, mobility and handoff scenarios in carrier Wi-Fi applications. The Spirent octoScope partnership facilitates testing for new market areas including M2M, IoT, Shared Spectrum and vehicle to vehicle. All of these technologies have challenges of interference, congestion, signal strength, and the ever-present demand of increased data volumes and high expectation of user quality.
Teoco Selects Spirent to Enhance LBS and IoT Testing Capabilities

TEOCO has selected Spirent Communications to enhance the LBS testing capabilities at its AIRCOM Device Test Lab in Dallas, Texas. The lab will use the newly launched Spirent 8100-Q750 test product, a benchtop platform that simultaneously tests multiple devices for critical, operator-mandated LBS test areas. The new Spirent platform was recently validated by a leading North American carrier. In addition, elements of the platform can be easily extended to address test challenges for the rapidly-emerging Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, which requires comprehensive test and measurement capabilities to deliver a sustainable, high-quality user experience on a variety of new device form factors. TEOCO's selection of the Spirent platform is the latest in a series of new initiatives by the company to expand its IoT offering in line with the emergence of the IoT and its growing commercial importance to operators, OEMs and enterprises. The Spirent 8100-Q750 expands the TEOCO lab's range of test capabilities to include Location Based Services (LBS) on mobile devices. LBS uptake has grown steadily in recent years, driven by the roll-out, firstly, of HSPA and then LTE networks, plus the widespread availability of GPS-enabled handsets worldwide and rising subscriber usage of apps and services that include geo-aware features like mapping, tagging and emergency services such as VoLTE E911. As a result, operators' acceptance test cases for LBS have increased in scope and complexity, which in turn requires expanded device testing capabilities.
