Teoco Selects Spirent to Enhance LBS and IoT Testing Capabilities

TEOCO has selected Spirent Communications to enhance the LBS testing capabilities at its AIRCOM Device Test Lab in Dallas, Texas. The lab will use the newly launched Spirent 8100-Q750 test product, a benchtop platform that simultaneously tests multiple devices for critical, operator-mandated LBS test areas. The new Spirent platform was recently validated by a leading North American carrier. In addition, elements of the platform can be easily extended to address test challenges for the rapidly-emerging Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem, which requires comprehensive test and measurement capabilities to deliver a sustainable, high-quality user experience on a variety of new device form factors. TEOCO's selection of the Spirent platform is the latest in a series of new initiatives by the company to expand its IoT offering in line with the emergence of the IoT and its growing commercial importance to operators, OEMs and enterprises. The Spirent 8100-Q750 expands the TEOCO lab's range of test capabilities to include Location Based Services (LBS) on mobile devices. LBS uptake has grown steadily in recent years, driven by the roll-out, firstly, of HSPA and then LTE networks, plus the widespread availability of GPS-enabled handsets worldwide and rising subscriber usage of apps and services that include geo-aware features like mapping, tagging and emergency services such as VoLTE E911. As a result, operators' acceptance test cases for LBS have increased in scope and complexity, which in turn requires expanded device testing capabilities.

Spirent Communications Unveils New Solution for Testing Automotive Ethernet Functionality

Spirent Communications unveiled the Spirent C1 Automotive Test System, a new solution for testing automotive ethernet functionality and security. The Spirent C1 Automotive Test System is the first fully integrated test solution to support the BroadR-Reach industry standard, helping auto makers to successfully deploy Ethernet-based communications technology. BroadR-Reach, being adopted by auto makers worldwide, uses Ethernet-based communications in vehicles for new functionalities such as multiple cameras and safety radars, infotainment, and Internet connectivity for telematics and other consumer applications. The adoption of BroadR-Reach will also help to reduce vehicle cost and fuel consumption. Implementing BroadR-Reach technology safely, securely and successfully is critical to the evolution towards the connected car. It will enable auto makers to add more features more cost effectively and help connect vehicles to both infrastructure and the Internet to further improve and enhance the driver experience. The Spirent C1 applies the power and expertise of Spirent's Ethernet/IP award-winning Spirent TestCenter and Avalanche Next solutions for conformance, performance and security testing in an automotive-focused, cost efficient, form factor. It also supports multiple BroadR-Reach and standard 10/100/1000 Base-T test ports up to full line-rates. It is designed for use by vehicle manufacturers, sub-system and chipset vendors to ensure conformance and performance to the known Ethernet & IP-Protocol standards.

Spirent Launches First Bench-Top System for Fast, Reliable Evaluation of Mobile Device Acoustic Speech Quality

Spirent Communications has launched AVS (Acoustic Verification System), the first bench-top system for fast and reliable evaluation of mobile device acoustic speech quality. With AVS, operators are now able to incorporate sophisticated acoustic speech analyses into their forward and reverse device logistics processes, driving substantial cost savings and improved user experience. AVS has already been deployed by a tier 1 North American operator for acoustic speech evaluation of large volumes of returned mobile devices. AVS helps forward logistics groups assure user experience by evaluating a key aspect of user experience: acoustic speech quality. With a breakthrough bench-top form factor, AVS makes acoustic speech evaluation of large volumes of devices both practical and cost-effective. Using AVS, forward logistics groups are able to statistically sample device lots for acoustic speech quality and have confidence that shipped devices will deliver an excellent user experience. AVS enables acoustic speech quality evaluation of all returned devices with "poor audio quality," providing a superior ability to identify defective devices. Better identification of in-warranty devices with defects can lead to substantial reductions in device costs for operators. In addition, better identification of defective devices ensures only fully functional devices are sent for refurbishment, leading to improved user experience. AVS supports acoustic speech quality evaluation for any wireless technology including GSM, CDMA, UMTS and VoLTE.
