Chelsio Expands Terminator 5 ASIC Product Line

Chelsio Communications, Inc. announced the launch of four new SKUs in its Terminator 5 (T5) ASIC product line, the fifth generation of Chelsio's high performance Ethernet silicon technology and a recognized leader in performance, capabilities and features. T5 is a highly integrated, hyper-virtualized 10/40GbE controller with full offload support of a complete Unified Wire solution comprising NIC, TOE, iWARP RDMA, iSCSI, FCoE, NAT, NVGRE and VXLAN support, Security and Filtering, and Traffic Analytics and Management. T5 provides no-compromise performance with high packet processing capacity, sub-microsecond hardware latency and high bandwidth, limited only by the PCIe Gen3 bus. Furthermore, it scales to true 40 Gigabit line rate operation from a single TCP connection to thousands of connections, and allows simultaneous low latency and high bandwidth operation multiple physical channels through the ASIC. The new SKUs expand the reach of T5 ASICs into the Datacenter and Cloud scale applications. Chelsio is announcing the immediate availability of the following products: T5ASIC10G - 4x10Gb with complete feature-set. T5ASIC40G - 2x40Gb or 4x10Gb with complete feature-set. T5ASIC10G-SO - 4x10Gb with stateless offload only. T5ASIC40G-SO - 2x40Gb or 4x10Gb with stateless offload only. All products can be used in single chip configuration, without external memories, to provide full server adapter NIC functionality, including traffic management and QoS, filtering, load balancing, and NAT. A unified software suite supports all the 4 SKUs, and is available in source form, without a license fee. All 4 products are pin compatible with each other and with the currently shipping T5 ASIC. Given the high integration of T5, the ability to concurrently run all the different protocols at performance levels, and the rich feature set that addresses all the key Ethernet market segments, the silicon enables OEMs to converge on a single vendor for all their connectivity needs, with price-optimized products to match the different requirements for each. Designed for high performance clustering, storage and data networking, T5 enables fabric consolidation by simultaneously offloading TCP/UDP/IP sockets, RDMA and storage traffic at wire speed, thereby allowing InfiniBand and FibreChannel applications to run unmodified and concurrently over standard Ethernet networks. By eliminating the need for InfiniBand or FibreChannel adapters, cabling, switches and gateways, T5 offers tremendous cost and operational savings. Chelsio Communications announced that it has launched a new product offering, the Terminator Core, a configurable kit for building high performance Converged Ethernet solutions. The Chelsio Terminator Core IP is built around a configurable, high performance Ethernet packet processing engine with RDMA, iSCSI, FCoE, and advanced server networking features, and leverages a full suite of software, in-boxed within the major server operating systems. A highly efficient and scalable design, Terminator Core is suitable for a wide range of System-on-a-Chip (SoC) network connectivity solutions, with multi-port support from 1 to 100Gbps. At the heart of the Terminator line of field proven Network Interface Card (NIC) controllers, Chelsio's Core architecture is designed for low latency, high capacity cut-through processing, minimum cycles per byte (CPB) and maximum memory efficiency. Terminator Core is the culmination of more than a decade of expertise with high performance network protocol implementation, and five generations of silicon proven design. Terminator Core offers support for a complete suite of storage and high performance computing networking protocols. Integrating the Core within an SoC design provides a drop-in server grade network-managed and hyper-virtualized Ethernet controller with a complete protocol stack. The Core can also be configured with an embedded edge switch capable of flexible packet switching and replication, with access control support, and an integrated ccNUMA controller that extends cache coherence to multiple nodes. The Terminator Core architecture can attach using a single ACE or PCI interface on the system bus side, and one or more ports on the network side. With a proven firmware and software stack that can operate on an ARM, Power or other embedded CPU based SoC system, the Core can be configured to support a comprehensive set of offload networking, storage and compute protocols, including a complete list of stateless offloads: Large Send Offload (LSO) and Large Receive Offload (LRO). Chelsio Communications announced that the Chelsio T5 Adapters RDMA over Ethernet solution will operate in Microsoft's Cloud Platform System (CPS). The Microsoft CPS solution is an integrated software and hardware solution enabling customers operate a scalable cloud built using experiences from Azure. The CPS networking infrastructure is comprised of an Ethernet based frontend fabric and an RDMA enabled storage backend fabric, which utilizes the SMB Direct protocol for high efficiency, high performance storage networking. The SMB Direct protocol enables high throughput, low latency and high efficiency storage, and unprecedented performance in virtual machine mobility. Native system software support for iWARP RDMA in Windows Server 2012 R2 simplifies storage and Virtual Machines management for IT administrators, with no network reconfiguration required. iWARP is the open IETF standard for RDMA that enables Ethernet networks to achieve high bandwidth, low latency and high efficiency communications. Built upon the solid and ubiquitous TCP/IP foundation, iWARP RDMA uniquely combines the key requirements of routability, reliability and congestion control which allow it to operate over any standard Ethernet infrastructure, from clusters to wide area networks and clouds. Therefore, a CPS installation based on iWARP RDMA can easily scale, using any type of Ethernet switch, with the traditional ease of use that is expected from a TCP/IP based installation. Chelsio's T5 adapters selected for Microsoft's solution are based upon the fifth generation of its high performance Terminator ASIC architecture. They are RDMA-capable Unified Wire adapters that simultaneously offload iSCSI, FCoE, RDMA and sockets applications, along with traffic management and QoS.
