Duracell to Spend $69 Million to Expand Lancaster Battery Plant

Lancaster County Council members will vote on June 23, 2014 night on incentives for a $69 million addition to the Procter & Gamble Duracell plant in Lancaster. Details of the expansion, which carried a code name of 'Project L' were sketchy afternoon, but it apparently may not immediately increase the number of jobs at the facility beyond the current 400. Most of the investment will go into updating equipment at the 300,000-square-foot plant that makes all of the company's AA batteries for North America. The company also plans a small brick-and-mortar expansion as a part of the equipment upgrades. Incentives include a property tax reduction of about 50% on improvements at the facility for 30 years, a revenue credit of 50% for 10 years on the new investment and a plan to roll an existing property tax cut into the new tax reduction. A value of the incentives wasn't immediately available.
