Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc. has announced major feature additions to the Qualcomm AllPlay smart media platform including Bluetooth to Wi-Fi re-streaming, custom audio settings and optimized synchronization. Additionally, Hitachi America Ltd. announced the launch of three Wi-Fi speakers powered by AllPlay. AllPlay provides consumers with multiple streaming options, including a new feature to combine both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi whole home streaming. Now, all local or cloud-based music on a consumer's smartphone can be streamed to any Bluetooth-compatible AllPlay speaker and then re-streamed over Wi-Fi to multiple AllPlay speakers, all in synch. This allows simple wireless connectivity to individual speakers or an entire home audio system over the user's existing home Wi-Fi network. This functionality provides a distinct advantage over Bluetooth-only speakers, which are limited to one-to-one streaming. The Hitachi Wi-Fi speakers offer seamless streaming of high-quality local and cloud-based audio content with the high performance and versatility of Wi-Fi and the convenience of Bluetooth. Additional features available for manufactures to evaluate later this month are: Custom Audio Settings: Manufactures now have more ways to differentiate their products and provide their customers with greater control over their wireless music experiences with custom sound equalization settings and channel selection capabilities; Optimized Synchronization: To meet the performance demands for true stereo and multi-channel wireless audio in the home, AllPlay now supports synchronization between devices of under 100 microseconds, making the platform suitable for both multi-room and multi-channel wireless audio streaming; and Line-in to Wi-Fi Re-streaming: Manufacturers can now build devices powered by AllPlay that take in audio from line-in sources, such as CD players or turntables, with the ability to re-stream to other AllPlay speakers around the home.
Qualcomm Announces Vuforia for Digital Eyewear, Powering the Next Generation of Augmented Reality Experiences

Qualcomm Incorporated through its subsidiary, Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc. announced the Qualcomm(R) Vuforia(TM) mobile vision platform will empower developers to build augmented reality (AR) applications for a new generation of digital eyewear. The new Vuforia Software Development Kit (SDK) for Digital Eyewear will deliver a major advance in user experience -- allowing interactive 3D content to be visually aligned with the underlying world. This capability will enable new applications in hybrid VR/AR gaming, shopping, and education, as well as across a wide range of enterprise and industrial uses. The Vuforia platform provides advanced computer vision functionality for recognizing images and objects in the user's field of view. It also leverages Qualcomm(R) Snapdragon(TM) processors to minimize the motion-to-photon latency that is so essential in delivering an authentic AR effect. Snapdragon processors are products of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated. The Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear also includes an easy-to-use calibration method that enables Vuforia applications to dynamically adapt to a wearer's facial geometry, thereby providing an optimal experience. The Vuforia SDK for Digital Eyewear was designed to converge with recent innovations in digital eyewear devices, including the ODG R-7 and the Epson Moverio BT-200. Announced by ODG, the R-7 represents the in digital eyewear with a fully integrated one-piece design, a stereoscopic see-through display system, wireless connectivity and the revolutionary computing power of the Snapdragon 805 processor. The R-7 offers users and developers unparalleled performance and versatility, and is initially targeted at government and industrial applications. The Epson Moverio BT-200 smart glasses has an integrated see-through display system and utilizes a two-piece design. The smart glasses component includes sensors and the display system. The Android-powered control unit contains all other electronics and provides a touch pad for user interaction. The Moverio BT-200 is available now and is ideal for both consumer and enterprise augmented reality applications, including: environmental games, training solutions, museum experiences, and more. Vuforia is also the first vision platform to enable a new class of hybrid VR/AR experiences on the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition powered by Oculus. Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc. has announced the general availability of its AllPlay Click Software Development Kit (SDK). Furthermore, several major hardware and content providers have announced launches relating to the Qualcomm(R) AllPlay(TM) smart media platform. The AllPlay ecosystem allows manufacturers to develop and offer consumers the seamless streaming of high-quality local and cloud-based content with high performance Wi-Fi connectivity, including support for Spotify Connect. A broad array of audio equipment manufacturers, networking companies and streaming music services have AllPlay products or services available or have announced plans to release them the year 2014-including Monster, FON, Astro Player, Digital Audio Recording FM (DAR FM), RecoChoku, Style Jukebox, Wahwah, WiMP and Qualcomm AllPlay Radio powered by TuneIn. Specifically, Qualcomm Connected Experiences is unveiling the results of collaborations with several manufacturers and developers on new AllPlay-related hardware and services. New to the AllPlay hardware ecosystem are Monster, with the release of their SoundStage wireless speaker line, and FON. A variety of popular music streaming services are also joining the AllPlay ecosystem. The AllPlay Click SDK is now publicly available to music service and media player application developers, allowing the broader app community to participate and stream from the apps these developers and music services create to one or many AllPlay-enabled devices, opening up the door for anyone to be able to participate natively in the AllPlay ecosystem. The AllPlay platform is built upon the AllJoyn(TM) software framework, an open source software and services framework and collaborative open source project of the AllSeen Alliance. AllJoyn enables hardware manufacturers and software developers to create interoperable products that can discover, connect and communicate directly with other AllJoyn-enabled products.
