Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) planned to invest EUR 600 million ($656.3 million) to increase the capacity of its thermal and hydropower plants. The company is aware of Serbia's obligations as part of its EU accession process and will work to meet them by investing in the modernisation of the existing capacity. EPS has already completed works on the overhaul of Bajina Basta hydropower plant, while similar projects for the Zvornik and Djerdap I hydroelectric plants are currently being executed. By investing in upgrades of existing hydropower plants, EPS has managed to increase their total installed capacity by some 150 MW so far.
Elektroprivreda Srbije Starts Project to Expand Drmno Coal Mine's Capacity

Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) announced it started the installation of an excavator-conveyor-spreader (ECS) system in Drmno mining basin as part of a project for the modernization of Kostolac B coal-fired power plant. The system is valued at $123 million (EUR 114.6 million) and its installation will increase the capacity of the Drmno mining basin in the complex to 12 million t annually from the current 9.0 million t. Energy minister Aleksandar Antic said that the company will complete the installation of the ECS, including a 12 km-long transport system, by 2019. The modernization project also includes the construction of a 350 MW third unit at Kostolac B coal-fired power plant, to be completed by 2020. The total investment in the modernization of Kostolac B coal-fired power plant will stand at $715.6 million. The 700 MW Kostolac B is part of thermal power and coal mining complex TE-KO Kostolac in eastern Serbia, which also includes the Drmno open-pit mine. TE-KO Kostolac operates another thermal power plant, Kostolac A, with an installed capacity of 310 MW.
Government Denies Privatization Plans Of EPS

Serbian Minister of Energy and Mining, Aleksandar Antic, has denied media speculations that the government will sell or privatize Elektroprivreda Srbije A.D., following an announcement for an evaluation of company's assets. He said that the evaluation is part of the plan for defining of EPS's shareholding form.
