Artesyn Embedded Technologies Inc. Key Developments

Artesyn Embedded Technologies Announces Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL4) Certification

Artesyn Embedded Technologies announced Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL4) certification for the Artesyn Embedded Computing Inc. ControlSafe Platform (CSP) with ControlSafe Computer (CSC) and ControlSafe Software, one of the first embedded computing systems to use commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components to create a fail-safe and fault-tolerant computing platform for a wide range of train control and rail signaling applications. The ControlSafe Platform enables rail application developers and system integrators to substantially accelerate time-to-market without being deterred by the potentially high costs and risks associated with the stringent SIL4 system development and certification process, a process that can take multiple years to accomplish.

Artesyn Embedded Technologies Announces SharpSwitch(TM) Dual 100G Intelligent Network Interface Card

Artesyn Embedded Technologies announced the SharpSwitch PCIE-9205 [2] PCI Express intelligent network interface card, which eliminates the need for a costly external load balancer in wireless, communications, broadcast and streaming media applications. It is ideal for low power, dense computing applications due to the Intel Xeon D series processor and Intel Ethernet multi-host controller (code name Red Rock Canyon) which provides dual 100G Ethernet interfaces and 100G switch. Virtual Switch to Augment Hardware Solution In virtualized environments with dynamic workloads, virtual switches are required to forward packets internally and connect virtual machines to the outside world. In many cases, these virtual switches are implemented with Open vSwitch, emulating the function provided by physical switches. But virtualized switching comes at a cost. In certain configurations, Open vSwitch has been shown to require as much as half of the available processor cores for switching the traffic to and from the VMs running on a given server. By focusing on the minimal requirements for typical applications, and building on top of Intel Data Plane Development Kit (DPDK), Artesyn has designed a massively accelerated virtual switch to address these weaknesses. By using the SharpSwitch PCIE-9205 as an Open vSwitch accelerator, the vast majority of the available processor cycles in the system can be used for payload VMs.

Artesyn Embedded Technologies Introduces New Six Watt DC-DC Converters

Artesyn Embedded Technologies announced the introduction of the new ASA 6W-M Series of six watt DC-DC converters. The series provides a reinforced insulation system of 4000 Vac, insulation resistance of 10 Gohm, is rated for 2X means of operator protection (MOOP) and has medical safety certification to UL/cUL/EN/IEC 60601-1 3rd Edition. This highly reliable product family has a calculated MTBF of one million hours. Encapsulated in a compact 31.8 x 20.3 mm (1.25 x 0.8 inch) industry-standard package, the ASA 6W-M series offers up to 80% efficiency and covers a wide input voltage range; nominally 12 V, 24 V or 48 V (9 - 18 Vdc; 18 - 36 Vdc; 36 - 75 Vdc) available in single or dual output variants. Artesyn's ASA 6W-M Series consists of 5 V and 12 V single output models together with +12/-12 and +15/-15 V dual output models. These dc-dc modules can operate from minus 40 degrees Celsius up to 75 degrees Celsius with full power available to 55 degrees Celsius and power derating at higher temperatures. They offer additional features such as the low leakage current required in medical applications, protection from overvoltage, and EMI characteristics that can meet EN 55022, class A and FCC level A. These compact converters feature overload protection, are RoHS compliant and are shipped with a three-year product warranty.
