Coles to Axe 205 Jobs from Store Support Centre in Victoria

Coles is making 205 people redundant from its store support centre in Victoria. The company said 97 permanent and 108 contracted positions would go from their IT and strategy and project management divisions over coming months. In September 2014 the company confirmed it was axing 438 jobs from its Melbourne support centre at Tooranga. The company said the changes would lead to the loss of 378 permanent positions and 60 contractor jobs.

Coles Group Reportedly Received Approaches For Vintage Cellars Liquor Chain

Coles Group Limited has received approaches from private equity buyers wanting to buy the Vintage Cellars liquor chain for up to AUD 300 million. It is understood that the approaches have been made in the past few days and involve splitting off the Vintage Cellars chain in a clean sale out of the larger Coles liquor division. The approaches have been made by at least two different parties as part of deals involving Coles’ underperforming liquor division and are centred on a spin-off of Vintage Cellars. A Coles spokesman said on June 5, 2014, “We don’t comment on media or market speculation around mergers, acquisitions or divestments.”

Coles Group Limited reported retail sales results for third quarter and year to date ended March 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company’s sales were AUD 8,639 million against AUD 8,342 million a year ago. For the year to date, the company’s sales were AUD 27,900 million against AUD 26,651 million a year ago.
