R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company and Smartrac Jointly Market Innovative RFID-Based Smart Packaging and Labeling Solutions

R. R. Donnelley & Sons Company and Smartrac have agreed to jointly market an innovative process for RAIN RFID implementation that will enable growth in the number of products connected to the Internet of Things (IoT) through smart packaging and related solutions. Both companies will bring specific strengths to the collaboration. RR Donnelley will leverage its unique printed electronics capabilities including customized antenna design and printing, and its leadership in labels and packaging markets. Smartrac will contribute its extensive chip attach capacity, plus the data collection and processing capabilities of Smart Cosmos, the company’s IoT services and solutions platform. By leveraging each other’s fields of expertise, the companies have developed a unique method for manufacturing RAIN inlays using two distinct components that do not need to be adhered together. This method expands upon current use cases and creates new opportunities for value-added products and services. For example, it provides brand owners a means to simplify their RFID compliance needs by making all product tags, labels, and packaging RFID-ready and then enabling them on an as-needed basis. Additional use cases include inventory management, asset tracking, authentication, retail theft prevention, consumer engagement and others.
ThingBlu Selects Smartrac's Internet of Things Platform Smart Cosmos for Legal Cannabis Industry Solutions

ThingBlu has selected Smartrac's IoT platform Smart Cosmos to provide a managed set of solutions to their clients. ThingBlu is focused on delivering compliance and management capabilities to the legal indoor cannabis industry by transforming its clients'' data into actionable intelligence. By collecting and consolidating information of ''things'' with the Smart Cosmos platform ThingBlu's clients can now transform simple data into something that is a valuable Operational Decision Support tool. Although the Smart Cosmos platform was designed to be technology agnostic Smartrac had launched it with the original intend to mainly help driving a fast and cost-efficient adoption of RFID applications across different industries. ThingBlu has no plans at this time to utilize RFID but they found it's ideally suited for their planned range of applications. Both companies signed a framework and license agreement that inter alia governs the use of and access to the databases and services that are part of Smart Cosmos.
SMARTRAC Launches Two New RFID Inlays Based on Impinj Monza R6

SMARTRAC announced the launch of two new RFID inlays for the retail industry, both based on the high-performance Impinj Monza R6 chip The new designs offer faster writing speed, greater backscatter strength, parallel encoding capabilities and increased read- and write-sensitivity. Their performance makes them ideally suited for large-scale deployment in the supply chain. The second new product, the SMARTRAC MiniWeb inlay, comes with an antenna design size of 42x16mm. This Europe-focused top-quality product allows customers to meet high-performance requirements for new end-use applications, and tight performance distribution. The inlay has passed ARC category K requirements for ETSI retail performance, as defined by the Auburn RFID Research Center.
