Clayton, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tru-Design and Skidmore Owings and Merrill Partner to Build 3D Printed Concept Home

Clayton Homes and the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, or ORNL, have partnered with two other companies to design and build a 3D printed concept home. The project titled Additive Manufacturing and Integrated Energy (A.M.I.E.), came to fruition as a partnership among Clayton, ORNL, Tru-Design and Skidmore Owings and Merrill (SOM). SOM designed the concept home, Tru-Design pre-assembled and coated the structure, ORNL printed it and Clayton assembled all of the pieces together. The four organizations came together to produce a 200-square-foot concept home that includes compatibility with a 3D printed car that allows the home and car to transmit electricity between each other wirelessly.
