NovTech Inc. and Active-Semi Collaborates to Offer Freescale i.MX6 Family of Application Processors

NovTech Inc. and Active-Semi announced their collaboration to offer immediate availability of power management solutions for the Freescale i.MX6 family of application processors. The ACT8847QM502-T is Active-Semi’s new addition to the ActivePMU portfolio of power management integrated circuits (PMICs) that are used to deliver highly efficient power supplies to embedded processing systems and peripherals. Active-Semi and NovTech Inc. have collaborated together to make available a complete i.MX6+ACT8847 reference design. NovTech leveraged their NOVSOM®i.MX6x Platform Evaluation Kit (NOVPEK) to create the i.MX6+ACT8847 reference design with Active-Semi. The ACT8847QM502-T provides four switch-mode buck regulators and eight linear regulators, power state control logic, seven general purpose signals, and an optional two-wire interface for general control and DVFS (Dynamic Voltage Frequency Scaling). The voltage levels and power sequence is pre-programmed such that it offers a skin-tight fit to power Freescale i.MX6 systems.
Active-Semi Announces HYDRA-X Development Platform for Rapid Prototyping Motor and Power Control Products

Active-Semi International, Inc. announced the general availability of its HYDRA-X scalable development platform that enables developers and makers to rapidly prototype systems with Active-Semi's Power Application Controller (PAC)(TM) IC Family. The scalable HYDRA-X platform has already been used for applications such as brush-less DC motor control, power tools, small appliances, robotics, toys, and LED lighting systems. The HYDRA-X platform release includes 2 scalable general-purpose Hydra body boards, namely, HYDRA-X10 and HYDRA-X20 based on PAC5210 and PAC5220 ICs, and 4 stackable Hydra "heads" that extend the functionality of the Hydra body boards to specific applications. Customers and developers can build their own Hydra heads that target their specific system needs. Active-Semi's patented and highly integrated family of PAC(TM) ICs integrates multi-mode power manager (for AC-DC or DC-DC conversion), configurable analog front-end, data converters, gate-drivers, on-chip temperature sensor, GPIO, and serial ports along with an ARM(R) Cortex MCU. This versatile power management and controller IC eliminates multiple discrete IC chips typically used in other solutions, reducing printed circuit board area.
Active-Semi Introduces Fully-Integrated Single-Chip Solution to Extend Smart Phone and Tablet Computer Battery Life

Active-Semi introduced a new family of Power Bank IC solutions, the ACT2800 product family. The first two devices in this evolutionary product series are the ACT2801 and ACT2802. These single-chip solutions offer numerous benefits including the smallest solution footprint combined with high efficiency at low total system cost. Prior to general release, the ACT2800 family of products has experienced significant customer interest with more than 25 design wins. The ACT2800 family was architected to integrate the complete Power Bank functionality into one system-on-a-chip. Power Bank chipsets on the market require multiple ICs, such as micro controller units (MCUs), to perform the charging and battery management functions in addition to several discrete components. The ACT2800 family reduces the system footprint and minimizes design complexity, while leaving room for larger batteries and reducing total system cost. The ACT2801 device supports output current up to 1.5A while the ACT2802 supports output current up to 2.1A to reduce charging time when using larger batteries.
