Digicel El Salvador Key Developments

Digicel El Salvador Plans to Invest USD 45 Million by 2015

Digicel El Salvador announced that it plans to invest USD 45 million in upgrading its services between now and 2015. According to the executive, 2013 was a challenging year that required three large projects that were carried simultaneously, including upgrading the mobile network and billing platforms. Network coverage was increased by 12% and 4G HSPA+ deployed in the greater San Salvador area, a service that was launched on January 7, 2014.

Digicel Expands Caribbean Submarine Fiber Network and Capacity

Digicel reached an agreement with French Loret Group and Caribbean Fibre Holdings to acquire a submarine fiber network across the Caribbean region. The deal is still subject to regulatory approval. The additional 2,100km of cable will bring Digicel's Caribbean total fiber optic cable to 3,100km, comprised of 15 submarine segments. The new cable will stretch from Trinidad to Guadeloupe.

Digicel Launches 4G LTE Services in Cayman Islands

Digicel has launched 4G LTE services across the Cayman Islands with 99% population coverage. From November 29, 2013 to December 5, 2013, the company will offer access only to those in its early adopter LTE program. During this period customers will be offered the opportunity to pre-purchase devices and sign up for a plan. Once the device is activated it will be delivered on December 6, 2013. Entry-level postpaid data plans start from $30.50 per month. Prepaid plans for one day, seven days and one month are also available.
