Finesse Solutions, Inc. announced the launch of its new G3Lite+ SmartController for upstream cell culture and fermentation. The G3Lite+ extends the capabilities of Finesse's G3Lite product for all major brands of single-use bioreactors (50L to 2,000L operating volume) and single-use fermenters (30L to 300L operating volume). The G3Lite+ is now available for Mobius® CellReady, Thermo Scientific™ HyPerforma™ TK SUB, GE Xcellerex XDR, and Pall PadReactor® single-use vessels. The G3Lite+ is also compatible with single-use fermenters such as the Thermo Scientific HyPerforma 30L to 300L single-use fermenters. The G3Lite+ interfaces easily with Finesse TruBio® DV 5.0 software to deliver optimal bioprocess control. The G3Lite+ controller continues to leverage Finesse's SmartParts™ to deliver industrial automation reliability and scalability in a very affordable package. The controller can accommodate up to four peristaltic SmartPumps™, locally, or it can be connected to an external pump tower, which can control up to seven pumps. The G3Lite+ also incorporates SmartTransmitters for TruFluor™ single-use sensors or electrochemical sensors. Up to six gases can be controlled using SmartMFCs in a compact gas manifold; the G3Lite+ also enables high flow-rate SmartMFC™ gas manifolds that are required for fermentation applications. Further, the G3Lite+ enables control of redundant vent filter heaters (including automatic switchover) and has dedicated outputs for building alarms or digital control of harvest valves. For fermentation applications, the G3Lite+ now incorporates foam level detection. The G3Lite+ also supports a dedicated TruTorr™ transmitter for bag integrity verification using TruBio DV software.
Finesse Solutions, Inc. Launches SmartVessel(TM), a Single-Use 3L Bioreactor for Cell Culture and Fermentation

Finesse Solutions, Inc. announced the launch of SmartVessel, a single-use 3-liter bioreactor vessel. The SmartVessel features integrated single-use sensors for cell culture applications of mammalian, stem, insect, and plant cells. The SmartVessel also has separate electrochemical sensor ports for fermentation and bio-fuels applications. All wetted materials of the SmartVessel are USP class VI-compliant, animal derived component-free, latex-free, BPA-free, and phthalate-free. This stirred tank bioreactor allows working volumes ranging from approximately 0.5L to 2.2L. The unit comes completely preassembled and pre-sterilized, so it is immediately ready to use. There is no need for labor-intensive steps, such as autoclaving or probe installation, thus minimizing setup time. The design allows significant flexibility in impeller design so that each application can be optimized independently. The SmartVessel is engineered to provide optimal low-shear performance in mixing without sacrificing the kLa or thermal control together with the efficiency and flexibility of a single-use system. The SmartVessel head plate allows for the insertion of autoclavable probes (for example, cell viability or CO2). The SmartVessel also leverages integrated SmartPuck sensor technology for pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), and temperature measurement. SmartVessel has been designed to maximize process flexibility, from simple fed-batch to sophisticated perfusion processes. It is also possible to integrate a cooling finger into the head plate to allow use in fermentation applications.
Finesse Solutions Introduces SmartGlass 15L Vessel

Finesse Solutions, Inc. announced the extension of its new SmartGlass(™) auto-clavable glass bioreactors to include 15L vessels for upstream cell culture and fermentation. The new product family of Finesse bioreactors (1L, 3L, 7L and 15L total volume) is designed to optimize yield in both R&D and cGMP applications. SmartGlass vessels enable easier handling and faster assembly/disassembly for cleaning. They are designed to be fully hygienic to ensure complete process sterility and minimize lost batches. The vessels are manufactured with the higher standards for surface finish and operation safety. The SmartGlass vessels are fully compatible with all Finesse G3Lab(™) controllers or can be fitted with a Finesse SmartAdapter to use third-party controllers.
