Verizon Digital Media Services, Inc. Key Developments

Verizon Digital Media Services Announces Availability of Live Streaming Solution

Verizon Digital Media Services announced the availability of its Live Streaming Solution, designed to remove the complexity and high costs for broadcasters, venues and event producers when streaming live content at scale. The launch of the Live Streaming Solution coincides with key enhancements to the Verizon Digital Media Services platform, including workflow enhancements in the Uplynk Video Streaming service, enhanced monitoring tools in Network Operations Centers in Los Angeles, California and Ashburn, Virginia, and the availability of a managed services team for day-of-show support. Key features of the new Live Streaming Solution include: A cloud-based scheduler and an operator dashboard to provision encoders, manage live feeds, insert ad breaks and push slates in the Uplynk Video Streaming service. Publishing a single live-stream URL that transitions seamlessly between pre-event, live and post-event statuses to greatly simplify the syndication of content to internal or third-party content management systems and apps. Automatic and instant creation of a VOD asset upon completion of the live event, without the need for re-encoding, which removes additional costs and delays. Real-time health monitoring and failover support for the Uplynk Video Streaming service's Slicer application running onsite at the venue or at the point of origination. Continued expansion of the Edgecast Content Delivery Network (CDN) with global reach, including recently announced points of presence (PoPs) in South America, India and Asia. End-to-end intelligence and insights, correlating viewing analytics with network performance. The ability to outsource day-of-show operations to the Verizon Digital Media Services live events operations staff.

Verizon Digital Media Services, Inc.'s Verizon Digital Media Services brings OTT Capabilities to Existing Volicon Media Intelligence Broadcast Customers

The Volicon Media Intelligence service from Verizon Digital Media Services has been enhanced with the integration of Verizon's Slicer application, an essential software element of the Uplynk Video Streaming service. This integration allows users of the Volicon Media Intelligence service to launch over-the-top (OTT) offerings quickly and efficiently by leveraging their existing Volicon hardware infrastructure. The Volicon Media Intelligence service, deployed at over a thousand broadcast locations worldwide, records broadcast content across interfaces including SDI (serial digital interface), TS (a digital container format for transmission), and analog for purposes of monitoring, compliance and review. The Uplynk Video Streaming service offers a comprehensive solution for broadcasters to stream linear channels, live events and on-demand clips to online viewers on an array of mobile phones, tablets, web browsers and streaming devices. The addition of the Slicer application to the Volicon Media Intelligence service puts compliance, monitoring and OTT delivery in a single footprint within a broadcaster's facility. Activated as quickly and easily as flipping a switch, the Slicer application gives broadcasters the ability to ingest video, encode it into multiple bitrate profiles, encrypt it and distribute it via OTT or VOD (video-on-demand) services, as well as through web and social media sharing platforms. In addition to streaming, Volicon Media Intelligence service users will have access to all other Uplynk Streaming service features enabled by the Slicer, including targeted server-side ad insertion, unified content and user analytics, and scalable content delivery via the Edgecast Content Delivery Network. Unifying encoding for compliance as well as monitoring OTT encoding simplifies broadcast workflows, resulting in fewer overall encoding requirements, improved technical efficiency and fewer vendors to manage. Monitoring and compliance tools within the Volicon Media Intelligence service's single unified interface will also make it easy for broadcasters to keep an eye on new OTT offerings and ensure the integrity and quality of audio and video. It allows users to identify problems earlier, validate the presence and accuracy of closed captions, confirm proper ad insertions, and review for loudness and decency as needed. The service empowers broadcasters to ensure a better quality of experience, regardless of the distribution platform.

Verizon Digital Media Services Partners with Bharti Airtel Limited to Expand Footprint with Four New Points of Presence in India

Verizon Digital Media Services and Bharti Airtel Limited have partnered to launch new points of presence (PoPs) in four cities in India: Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and New Delhi. The four PoP installations mark Verizon Digital Media Services’ significant investment into expanding throughout the country, leveraging Airtel’s digital infrastructure as a gateway to India. This partnership will ensure that content on the Verizon Digital Media Services platform can be accessed by digital media consumers in a fast, seamless and reliable way and will improve the experience for users in India. In addition to Airtel’s world-class data center services and unparalleled network across the country, this move enables Verizon Digital Media Services to provide superior digital media experiences to millions of internet users in India. The newly installed PoPs have already yielded exceptional outcomes. Using third-party Cedexis measurement tools, Verizon Digital Media Services has observed significant network improvements when comparing its network performance in India before and after the PoP installations. The amount of time required on Verizon Digital Media Services’ servers to receive users’ requests, respond and deliver results has significantly decreased.
