Tata Reportedly In Early Talks To Join Reliance, Aircel and MTS

Reliance Communications Limited (NSEI:RCOM) and Tata Sons Limited are believed to have initiated talks to explore a possible union that could see Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (BSE:532371) join forces with the merged Reliance, Aircel Cellular Limited and Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited, persons familiar with the matter said. According to media reports, Reliance Group Chairman Anil Ambani has approached N Chandrasekaran, who takes over as Tata Sons' chairman on Tuesday, to discuss the merger. However, the report added that no deal has been finalised and obstacles include Tata Teleservices' huge debt.

Reliance Communications Limited has announced that Hon'ble High Court of Judicature at Bombay has sanctioned the Scheme of Arrangement between Reliance Communications Limited and Sistema Shyam Teleservices Limited (SSTL) and their respective shareholders and creditors (Scheme) pursuant to the petition filed by the company. The Hon'ble Rajasthan High Court has already sanctioned the Scheme on September 30, 2016 pursuant to the petition filed by SSTL.

Sistema Public Joint Stock Financial Corporation (MISX:AFKS) is looking for a possible merger of its unit. Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) is looking for a merger with Reliance Communications Ltd. (NSEI:RCOM) (RCom) and may close a potential deal by October 2015, according to SSTL spokesperson. The spokesperson stated, “SSTL and RCom are waiting for a necessary legal endorsement and an approval from corresponding authorities to officially formalize the merger. We hope the process will be finished by the fourth quarter of 2016.” Talks have already been initiated with Sistema, which already holds 10% in RCom, the news reported.
