Altera Accelerates High-capacity FPGA Design with Quartus Prime Pro Design Software

Altera, now part of Intel announced the production release of the new Quartus® Prime Pro design software, which further accelerates FPGA design performance and design team productivity. The Quartus Prime Pro software is architected to support the next generation of high capacity, highly integrated FPGAs from Intel, which will drive innovation across the cloud, data center, Internet of Things, and the networks that connect them. The capabilities built into the latest software release accelerate large FPGA design flows by delivering unprecedented compile time improvements, versatile design entry methods and simplified intellectual property (IP) integration. The Quartus Prime Pro software v16.0 delivers a design methodology that is optimized for large designs with more than one million logic elements. At the same time, users can leverage the software's incremental optimization feature to reduce design iterations and accelerate timing closure. Quartus Prime Pro Software v16.0 highlights: Production release of Quartus Prime Pro Edition with hierarchical databases, targeting the next generation of high capacity, highly integrated FPGAs from Intel. Production release of BluePrint platform designer, which reduces design iterations by 10X by allowing designers to make pin assignments and clock planning early in their design. Altera Unveils the Transceiver Technology to Enable Stratix 10 FPGAs and SoCs to Support Data Rates Up to 56 Gbps

Altera unveiled the transceiver technology that will enable Stratix 10 FPGAs and SoCs to support data rates up to 56 Gbps. Altera is demonstrating the FPGA dual-mode 56-Gbps pulse-amplitude modulation with 4-levels (PAM-4) and 30-Gbps non-return-to-zero (NRZ) transceivers. The transceiver technology doubles the bandwidth available on a single transceiver channel, while providing equipment manufacturers scalability to build future systems. Stratix 10 FPGAs and SoCs are optimized to support the massive amounts of data that are being transmitted across copper backplanes and optical interconnects used in data center infrastructure and telecommunications equipment. The Stratix 10 FPGA transceiver technology will support data rates ranging from 1 Gbps to 56 Gbps. Customers can use Stratix 10 FPGAs to build next-generation communications and networking infrastructure that support 50G, 100G, 200G, 400G and terabit applications. The transceiver's dual mode capabilities provide customers a path to develop next-generation high-end systems, while also providing investment protection by supporting mainstream and legacy backplanes, copper cables, chip-to-chip and chip-to-module interconnects and interfaces. Altera has been an industry recognized leader and contributor to the 50G-56G PAM-4 standard within the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet and Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF). Initial Stratix 10 FPGAs will start shipping in fourth quarter 2016. Altera is demonstrating the Stratix 10 FPGA transceiver technology at OFC 2016.
Altera Expands Enpirion Power Products Portfolio

Altera has expanded its Enpirion power products portfolio with EN6362QI, a new 6A PowerSoC DC-DC step-down converter. The new PowerSoC (EN6362QI) is a low-VIN (input voltage) power products that offer power density while improving performance in the areas of conversion efficiency, output voltage accuracy, load transient response, and output voltage ripple. These features help system designers meet stringent system power requirements and significantly reduce costs while accelerating time-to-market. The PowerSoC is ideal for powering the Altera Cyclone and MAX families of FPGAs and can optimize power usage in a variety of systems requiring a tiny, accurate, high-efficiency power source. The EN6362QI PowerSoC is 45% smaller than other power modules and 75% smaller than most competing discrete (non-integrated) device implementations. It offers the higher efficiency of any comparable module, along with superior thermal performance, delivering continuous 6A at 85oC ambient temperature with no de-rating. The EN6362QI PowerSoC is designed and manufacturing-tested as a complete power system, which results in very low FIT (failure in time) rates and dramatically improves system reliability when compared to discrete power supply solutions. With optimized total solution size of 170 mm2, the new EN6362QI PowerSoC offers 56 W/cm2 power density, 1.5% output voltage accuracy over line, load, and temperature, excellent load transient and output voltage ripple, full suite of protections and Low EMI.
