Daiichi Sankyo Co. Ltd and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital Co. Ltd Launch Open Innovation Investment Fund

Daiichi Sankyo Co. Ltd. and Mitsubishi UFJ Capital Co. Ltd. have set up the OiDE Fund Investment Ltd. partnership for the purposes of launching an open innovation business. The partnership will be focused on searching for promising university-led biotechnology research with the potential to result in platform technologies, with the aim of providing funding for such projects. Where ventures meet predefined criteria for success, Daiichi Sankyo will have rights and duties to take over resultant stock or intellectual property at pre-agreed prices. The OiDE fund will initially be invested with JPY 1 billion (USD 11.6 million), with Daiichi Sankyo providing JPY 100 million, Mitsubishi UFJ Capital up to JPY 200 million, the government's Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation JPY 450 million, and other unspecified investors providing the remainder.
