ABF Freight announced unaudited earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2014. ABF Freight's revenue was $485.9 million, an 11% increase over fourth quarter 2013 revenue of $436.7 million. Operating income increased to $14.7 million from $9.9 million in fourth quarter 2013. Excluding adjustments for certain other items, operating income increased to $15.8 million from $7.7 million in fourth quarter 2013.
For 2014, revenue was $1.9 billion, a 10% increase over $1.8 billion in 2013. ABF Freight's profitability improved as a result of its November 2013 union labor contract that reduced expenses and allowed ABF Freight to be more cost competitive with its LTL industry peers. ABF Freight's 2014 adjusted operating income increased to $55.4 million versus $11.9 million in 2013.

ArcBest Corporation announced that Roy M. Slagle, ABF Freight System, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer, has retired as of October 15, after 37 years of service with the company. Slagle is being succeeded as ABF Freight President by Tim Thorne, who most recently served as VP - Linehaul Operations, effective immediately. A 24-year veteran of ABF Freight, Thorne brings a strong background in operations and field management to help lead the company into its next era of success. Prior to becoming president of ABF Freight, Slagle served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing of ABF Freight. He also served as Vice President - Administration and Treasurer, Vice President and Treasurer, and Regional Vice President of Sales. His early years with the company included a variety of field operations positions in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Thorne joined ABF Freight in Orlando, Florida, in 1990 after serving as a captain in the U.S. Army. He managed several branches including Florence and Decatur, Alabama; Nashville, Tennessee; and Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Until 2013 he was Regional Vice President of Operations based in the Salt Lake City, Utah area.

ABF Freight announced that Michael R. Moss has been named Senior Vice President -- Operations, effective July 14, 2014 as the company continues to innovate within the less-than-truckload industry on behalf of its customers across the supply chain. In his new position, Moss will report directly to Slagle and will be responsible for all areas of operational activities for ABF Freight including terminal and linehaul operations, equipment purchasing and maintenance.
