Westinghouse Electric Company LLC Key Developments
Westinghouse Expands BWR Plant Support Portfolio
Nov 24 15
Westinghouse Electric Company LLC has added new products to its portfolio to assure that boiling water reactor units at global sites relying on the BWR plant-specific computer systems can maintain operability, as an alternative to full-scope replacement. Westinghouse’s purchase from C3-ilex LLC of TREK, a flexible system that monitors complex processes such as power generation, enables plant operators the ability to support BWR plant event management, process calculations, and alarm visualizations. The company’s purchase of DASie, a data acquisition system capable of collecting, synchronizing, time stamping, collating and buffering high-speed event data, supports continued communication between the BWR plant systems and legacy original equipment manufacturer instrumentation and control systems.
Westinghouse Wins Sizewell B Vital Equipment Maintenance Contract
Nov 4 15
Westinghouse Electric Company signed a contract with Barseb Kraft AB to support the first dismantling of a commercial nuclear power plant in Sweden by segmenting the reactor pressure vessel internals at the dual-unit Barseb Nuclear Power Station. EDF Energy has awarded Westinghouse a long-term contract to maintain the high-integrity control system and the primary protection system at the plant on the Suffolk coast. This new support program will enable EDF Energy to keep these systems operational through the end of the power station’s life, including during decommissioning, potentially for the next 45 years.
Westinghouse Electric Company Shield Shutdown Seal Successfully Demonstrated
Oct 5 15
Westinghouse Electric Company successfully demonstrated that the Westinghouse Generation III SHIELD Shutdown Seal performs to design specification to thermally activate and reduce reactor coolant pump (RCP) flow to less than one gallon per minute during station blackout conditions. The Generation III SHIELD Shutdown Seal was removed from service at Beaver Valley Unit 2 for the static activation test after one fuel cycle, which began in spring 2014. First Energy Nuclear Operating Company, Pressurized Water Reactor Owners Group and U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission representatives witnessed the test at the Westinghouse Science and Technology Center in Churchill, Pa.
