Cooper & Gale is expanding into the New York market, opening an office in Manhattan to be led by three veteran intellectual property attorneys who have joined the firm as shareholders. Kevin J. Culligan, John P. Hanish and John M. Hintz will practice out of the firm's office located at the Fred F. French Building, 551 Fifth Avenue, Suite 2000, in New York. Culligan, Hanish and Hintz join an IP practice team led by Sasha Rao in the San Francisco office and Jon Holland in the Huntsville office.

Maynard Cooper & Gale has named Gregory S. Curran chairman of the firm. Curran will succeed Mark Drew, who served as managing shareholder of the firm for the last decade. Drew has been appointed executive vice president and general counsel of the firm's long-time client, Protective Life Corp. Curran is a longstanding member of the firm's executive committee and most recently served as chair of the firm's business section. He also served as co-chair of the mergers and acquisitions and private equity practice group. Curran has more than 25 years of legal experience. Jeff Grantham was elected as vice chairman and chief strategy officer for Maynard Cooper. Grantham is also a member of the firm's executive committee and has served as chair of the firm's litigation section. Drew has led the firm since 2006.
