Shook Hardy & Bacon Pays $5 Million to Settle a Lawsuit

Shook Hardy & Bacon is paying $5 million to settle a lawsuit that it was liable for some of the losses in the investment fraud run by University of Miami booster Nevin Shapiro. Attorneys working on the bankruptcy of Shapiro's company sued the law firm, trying to recover money for victims of the fraud. It's not the first time a law firm was sued over a Ponzi client. Ralph Janvey, receiver for the $7 billion Ponzi scheme run by R. Allen Stanford, filed suit in 2012 against Greenberg Traurig and Hinton & Williams.
