Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. has announced that its partners have elected Madeleine McDonough to a five-year term as chair. McDonough, a former clinical pharmacist, is widely known in the legal community as a trusted advisor, experienced firm leader and litigation trailblazer. McDonough's term will begin on January 1, 2017. A 26-year veteran of the firm, she will succeed John Murphy, who has led Shook for the past 15 years. In 2010, at the beginning of his third term, Murphy announced he would not serve beyond 2016. Over the next six months, Murphy and McDonough will collaborate on a transition plan to ensure Shook maintains and grows its position as a go-to firm for complex, high-stakes matters. McDonough has considerable leadership experience; she is serving in her 10th year on the Shook Executive Committee and chairs the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Division. During her tenure, Shook has represented dozens of major pharmaceutical clients, including each of the top 10 pharmaceutical companies worldwide -- Pfizer Inc., GlaxoSmithKline and Bayer, among them.
Shook, Hardy & Bacon to Open Chicago Office Next Month

Shook, Hardy & Bacon will open an office in Chicago next month. The Chicago office is the fourth office Shook has opened in a new city in the past three years. Other new offices included a Denver office that opened last June, a Seattle office that opened in 2013 and a Philadelphia office that opened in August 2012. Shook has a total of 13 office locations, including two in Europe.

Shook, Hardy & Bacon named 9 attorneys to partnership from the firm's Kansas City office, effective Jan. 1. Zach Chaffee-McClure is a member of the firm's Business Litigation team, where he focuses on claims for breach of contract and breach of warranty, defending class actions brought under state consumer protection laws, banking litigation, business tort litigation and appeals. Kristina L. Burmeister is a member of the firm's Tort group. Her practice focuses on the defense of companies engaged in technical services and manufacturing, and she spends much of her time handling cases involving significant property damage, fire suppression systems and alarm systems. Megan M. Egli is a member of the firm's Global Product Liability group. She defends corporations in individual and complex product liability cases. She has served on numerous trial teams and achieved successful results throughout the country in state and federal courts. Cory Fisher is a member of the firm's Intellectual Property Prosecution & Counseling team, focusing on patent analysis, infringement and validity. M.
