Sabra Dipping Company, LLC Announces Management Changes; to Open Hummus Production Facility in Chesterfield County

Sabra Dipping Company has appointed Shali Shalit-Shoval as CEO, replacing Ronen Zohar who retired last month after seven years in the position. Shalit-Shoval, a global food business veteran, will oversee all operations as Sabra expands the business to meet growing consumer interest in hummus and in other fresh dips and spreads. Shalit-Shoval joins Sabra with more than 25 years of experience in consumer packaged goods, having held key leadership roles at several global food brands. Prior to working at Sabra she served as CEO of joint venture between PepsiCo and Strauss in Israel. Most recently, she served as Chief Marketing Officer for the Sabra brand. Also, the company announced that it would open the doors to its newly expanded hummus production facility in Chesterfield County early in October 2014, doubling production capacity and bringing an estimated 70 new jobs to the region in 2015. Best known for its hummus, Sabra expects the expanded facility will double production capacity and create an estimated additional 70 jobs within 2015. Sabra currently holds approximately 65% of the refrigerated flavored dips category in the US. Also Sabra opens its first pop up dining experience, Sabra Hummus House in Georgetown, DC.

Sabra Dipping Co., LLC Opens Global "Center of Excellence" R&D Facility, Cooking Up a World of Possibilities in Dips and Spreads

Sabra Dipping Co., LLC opened the doors to the new Center of Excellence (COE) research and development facility in Chesterfield County, VA. The Center, which is located on the site of Sabra's hummus manufacturing facility (the world's largest), will further research capabilities and improve Sabra's products in all aspects of food manufacturing and distribution, from agriculture, nutrition and food science to engineering, packaging and product delivery. The COE supports Sabra and the international venture between PepsiCo and Strauss Group, called Obela. The center is the first-of-its-kind research and development center for refrigerated dips and spreads. The Center of Excellence features a culinary center, research laboratory, ideation space, a pilot plant and hands-on research modules all aimed at enabling the company to develop the highest quality, most delicious dips and spreads. The Center will house experts in culinary arts, food technology and nutrition, and will conduct groundbreaking research on chickpeas, fruits and vegetables, some of which will be done in conjunction with local VA universities. As Obela looks to expand beyond Mexico and Australia, The Center of Excellence in Virginia will enable Obela to leverage experience from the US market to meet the needs of communities globally. Obela launched in Mexico in June of 2012 with three varieties of hummus (chipotle, red pepper and plain) and has gained market share quickly.
