MAGNA STEYR AG & Co KG Key Developments

MAGNA STEYR Seeks Acquisitions

MAGNA STEYR AG & Co KG seeks acquisitions. According to IHS Global Insight Daily Analysis, President of vehicle technology and engineering Karl-Friedrich Stracke said: "We are watching the M&A market very closely and are already looking at ways that we can become stronger. But it must be a true enhancement that brings us additional expertise. Just buying additional capacity makes no sense. A purchase has to fit strategically and contribute to our ability to offer our customers better service. That is the goal. We are looking at companies involved with electronics and on-board networks or with alternative powertrains as their focus." He added: "We have already mastered the integration of such technologies into the entire vehicle. Overall vehicle expertise has been a traditional Magna Steyr strength. However, this requirement is now coming from our Chinese customers, and that means we have to build up more overall vehicle know-how there. In China, however, the focus is on organic growth."

Magna Steyr Modernizes and Expands Production for Mercedes-Benz G-Class at Graz Location

Magna International Inc. announced that its Magna Steyr operating unit has launched an extensively modernized and expanded Mercedes-Benz G-Class production plant at its Graz location. After only five weeks of renovation, Magna Steyr presented the newly overhauled 63,000-square-meter production area with expanded production capacities to customers. The renovation work was the result of nearly 10 months of planning and preparation, and is highlighted by the addition of an assembly line as well as equipment upgrades and new assembly technologies throughout the plant to increase overall production capacity and improve the flow of assembly. For the approximately 1,500 employees who work in the Mercedes-Benz G-Class production plant, the enhancements offer ergonomically optimized workplaces and increased work safety. The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been rolling off the Magna Steyr production lines in Graz for 34 years, during which time more than 230,000 of the iconic off-road vehicles have been produced. In 2012 the production contract between Mercedes-Benz and Magna Steyr was extended for another seven years – until 2019. Currently, the plant is producing more units than ever before due to model variations and the popularity of the vehicle in expanding global markets such as China and the Middle East.
