Coca-Cola India announced that it is expected to lay off 4%-5% of its workforce as part of its Atlanta based parent's move to cut upto 1,800 jobs globally. The job cuts will not impact its India bottling arm Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages, which employs over 12,000 people.

Coca-Cola India Private Limited has initiated preliminary talks to pick up a minority stake in International Premier Tennis League Asia (JLT), reported Business Standard. The people with the knowledge of the matter said that Coca-Cola’s plan could be to acquire approximately a 10% stake in Premier Tennis League. On queries regarding the talks, a spokesperson for Coca-Cola India refused to comment, while Bhupathi did not respond to text messages by Business Standard.

Coca-Cola said its India investment plan of $5 billion by 2020 remains intact and the company is on course to achieving the target despite setbacks in the expansion of its Varanasi bottling plant. Coca-Cola has decided not to pursue the expansion of its bottling plant in Varanasi on grounds of inordinate delays in receiving environmental clearances for the $25-million project in Mehdiganj. On the launch, the new product was in line with its 2020 Vision. Initially, the product will be available on e-commerce platforms and outlets in south India. According to independent estimates, the non-alcoholic ready-to-drink (NARTD) beverage market is estimated at INR 70,000 million with sparkling beverages forming more than 60% of this market.
