Government To Acquire Stake In Telecel

The Government of Zimbabwe is ready to acquire a 100% stake in TeleceL Zimbabwe Pvt. Ltd. from Empowerment Corporation and VimpelCom who have offered to sell their respective 60% and 40% interests in the business to the government, according to reports.
Telecel Zimbabwe Announces Executive Changes

Telecel Zimbabwe has appointed Angeline Vere as its new chief executive, she becomes the company's fourth CEO in five years. The last CEO was Francis Mawindi, who had replaced John Swain, while Swain had replaced Aimable Mpore. The new CEO will have her hands full with dealing with the company's licence situation which almost saw it being closed, had it not been for a High Court ruling in its favour. Prior to the latest appointment Vere was the general manager of Telecel, having joined the company in July 2004 as legal manager. In 2010 she was promoted to the position of company secretary and legal director. Telecel's new CEO has more than 17 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to joining the company, Vere worked at the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe, the Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (now TelOne) and the Attorney General's Office, among other Zimbabwean companies.
MTN Reportedly Acquires Telecel Zimbabwe

MTN Group Limited (JSE:MTN) is planning to buy TeleceL Zimbabwe Pvt. Ltd. Information Communication Technology and Courier Services minister Supa Mandiwanzira is reported to have revealed that MTN has taken over Telecel Zimbabwe, at least two people in closer to the talks have revealed. Potraz had given a notice of 30 days to Telecel Zimbabwe on April 28 for completing operations on the basis, which the firm had failed to comply with the country's indigenisation laws and to pay for its licence fees. In its regulatory order 1/2015, Potraz has seen a letter from the ICT minister dated 02 April that was an acceptance by the government of Global Telecom's offer to sell its indirect 60% stake in Telecel to the government.
