Elsevier Collaborates with Ex Libris to Offer Automated Updates to Subscribed E-Content
Jun 18 15
Elsevier announced an expanded collaboration with Ex Libris. The collaboration will enable mutual customers of Elsevier's ScienceDirect and the Ex Libris Alma® library management solution and SFX® OpenURL link resolver, to benefit from a fully automated workflow that will keep the library full text access levels up to date for both journals and books. Using the ScienceDirect Admin Tool, librarians will trigger the automated feed through a one-time activation process. The library's entitlements will then be continuously updated in the Ex Libris knowledge base that underlies Alma and SFX. With the automatic updates, libraries will be able to increase the accuracy and timeliness of full-text links to their subscribed content for the benefit of their users. Furthermore, the up to date e-content will improve the library's collection development and acquisition decision-making processes. This collaboration is part of ScienceDirect's ongoing effort to make Elsevier content seamlessly accessible and discoverable in third-party applications, ensuring an efficient management, search, and discovery experience. The automated update capability supports Ex Libris' strategy to provide libraries with efficient tools for managing their local holdings in the Ex Libris global knowledge base.
U.S. National Science Foundation Selects Elsevier Data to Support its Science and Engineering Indicators
Apr 30 15
Elsevier announced that the National Science Foundation (NSF) has selected Scopus bibliometric data, and LexisNexis patent data as primary source to support its biennial Science and Engineering Indicators (SEI) report. The NSF s National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) will use Elsevier s data in support of the next SEI report which will be released in 2016. The NSF s NCSES completed a competitive evaluation under an open bid process and chose Elsevier as the primary data provider for their 2016 report; Elsevier is providing the Scopus bibliometric database and LexisNexis patent data for Science and Engineering Indicators and other analytical uses. This agreement is further testament to the quality and depth of Elsevier s data and metrics. The SEI report provides a broad base of quantitative information about U.S. science, engineering, and technology. It is widely acknowledged to be the definitive source of information on macro trends in U.S. research funding, output, and performance. American universities and colleges use data from the SEI report for their strategic planning and performance benchmarking of national and institutional comparators. Although the SEI report is policy neutral and does not make policy recommendations, many policymakers rely on the report to support discussions on science and research funding.
Elsevier Introduces Knovel Quick Search for Autodesk Revit(R)
Sep 29 14
Elsevier introduced Knovel Quick Search for Autodesk Revit(R). The Knovel application provides users of Autodesk's building information management (BIM) system with seamless access to Knovel from within the Revit platform. Knovel is a cloud-based application that integrates technical information with analytical and search tools. The new Knovel offering integrates with Revit, providing quick access to Knovel for building construction management engineers, architects, civil and electrical engineers, operations teams and other Revit users. It allows users to complete a basic search from within Revit, review the search results and also access the Knovel platform when a result is selected. Knovel Quick Search for Autodesk Revit helps engineers and other users find reference information on construction design, materials selection, design guidelines and best practices, and apply them to structural design, manufacturing and operations processes. This information can be used to design, build and maintain higher-quality, more energy-efficient buildings. For example, engineers involved in sustainable building design using Knovel Quick Search for Autodesk Revit would have access to relevant LEED certification, building codes, smart building references, specifications and materials information. Knovel Quick Search for Autodesk Revit allows professionals to find answers to technical questions, easily document sources for traceability and collaboration with contractors, clients and operators who may be involved with the project over the lifespan of the structure.
