Discovery Communications, Inc. Key Developments

Viacom Investors Reportedly Speculate A Possible Deal

Some Viacom, Inc. (NasdaqGS:VIAB) investors speculate deal could be on horizon, Reuters reports. Some investors are beginning to look beyond the current management battle at Viacom to the possibility of a bid for the company, Reuters reports. The report says there is no evidence of a bid in the works, but some speculate that one potential scenario could involve Viacom merging back into CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS) and Reuters says that if Viacom were put up for sale at an auction, potential bidders include Discovery Communications, Inc. (NasdaqGS:DISC.A), AMC Entertainment Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AMC), Dish Network Corp. (NasdaqGS:DISH) and Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ).

Channel 4 Still In Discovery's Sights

Discovery Communications, Inc. (NasdaqGS:DISC.A) is still interested in buying a stake in Channel Four Television Corporation with its Chief Executive, David Zaslav saying that Discovery is in the market to buy a major broadcast channel. "Having [another] broadcast channel in Europe would be attractive," said Zaslav. "It would really depend on what the pricing would be, but also we'd need enough flexibility to commercially programme it. So the question for anybody with Channel 4 - we've looked at it over the last year or two - has been, will there be an opportunity to programme it in a way [that appeals to Discovery]?"

Discovery Communications Mulls Acquisitions

Arthur Bastings, President and Managing Director of Discovery Communications, Inc.'s Asia-Pacific said," we want to grow organically as well as inorganically. And we will look at more acquisitions in India".
