Hawaii Regulators Deny SunEdison's Bid to Build New Solar Farm on Oahu
Jun 4 15
Hawaii regulators have struck down SunEdison's 20-megawatt planned solar energy farm in Central Oahu, mainly because the California-based company changed the configuration of the project. The Hawaii Public Utilities Commission also deferred decisions on the seven other Oahu solar farms that reached power purchase agreements with Hawaiian Electric Co. The projects are part of Hawaiian Electric's plan to push through utility-scale solar PV systems that could quickly provide electricity on Oahu at a lower cost. There's also a crucial federal tax credit deadline that ends in 2016, which is ramping up the urgency to get these, and other projects that are part of the plan, approved.
