SiBEAM, Inc. announced a USB 3.0 adapter reference design supporting the IEEE 802.11ad wireless standard (also known as WiGig) for wireless connectivity at gigabit per second speeds over the 60 GHz frequency band. The reference design lets OEMs add wireless gigabit connectivity to laptop and desktop computers and is designed to be fully complementary and interoperable end-to-end with Qualcomm Atheros’ 802.11ad networking solution. Wireless data traffic continues to grow exponentially, causing significant congestion on 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi networks. By operating over the much less crowded 60 GHz spectrum and supporting connectivity speeds up to ten times faster than today’s Wi-Fi technology, 802.11ad is expected to revolutionize wireless connectivity. To further improve performance, the reference design incorporates SiBEAM’s advanced beamforming technology to give OEMs robust RF performance for a more reliable wireless signal. The SiBEAM USB 3.0 802.11ad reference design (part number SK65011U) includes the SB6501, an 802.11ad MAC/baseband chip, and the Sil6312, a 60 GHz RF chip with on-package phase array antenna. The reference design will be available for interested parties to evaluate in early February 2016.

SiBEAM, Inc. Introduces New 60GHz WirelessHD Modules to Accelerate Wireless Display Designs for Medical and Industrial Applications

SiBEAM, Inc. announced new WirelessHD transmitter and receiver modules that operate over the 60GHz millimeter wave frequency band. The modules deliver visually lossless 1080p video streams at up to 60 frames per second and are an ideal video cable replacement solution in medical or industrial operating environments where cables are safety hazards. The wireless modules also reduce the cost of ownership in clean-room environments as there are no video cables to maintain and sterilize. SiBEAM’s WirelessHD MOD6320-T transmitter and MOD6321-R receiver modules connect to a host board and provide wireless video connectivity between an HDMI® source and a display. Having attained various wireless regulatory approvals, the modules significantly reduce the complexity associated with wireless performance design, testing, and compliance standards in wireless system design. Key features of the combined SiBEAM MOD6320-T/MOD6321-R solution include: 60GHz WirelessHD v1.1 compliant devices; Modular Regulatory approval " FCC, CE, IC, ETSI; PC video resolutions VGA through SXGA+; CE video resolutions 480i/576i to 1080p/60 Hz; Near-zero latency for minimal image lag; Support for surround sound audio; Support for CEC or AVC commands; HDCP content protection; and Automated advanced power control, for energy saving operation.

Letv Selects SiBEAM, Inc.'s UltraGig SiI6400 Transmitter for Le Max Smartphone

SiBEAM, Inc. has announced that Letv has selected its UltraGig SiI6400 transmitter for its new Le Max smartphone. Featuring SiBEAM's UltraGig SiI6400 transmitter, Le Max is the first smartphone offering 60GHz millimeter-wave wireless video technology in volume production. The inclusion of SiBEAM's wireless technology in the device expands the consumer content experience for Letv's film, television, and gaming services to mobile consumers.
