Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE appointed Christof Bentele as head of crisis management. He will be based in London and report to Michael Hohmann, global head of liability at the Allianz Group unit. Previously, Bentele has held senior board-level positions at two major brokers, where he was responsible for developing and coordinating the crisis management strategies for clients and third-party producers. In his new role, Bentele will be responsible for developing and combining existing and new products in product recall and contamination, terrorism and political violence.
Paul Schiavone Joins Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty as Regional Head of Financial Lines North America

Allianz Group's Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty (AGCS) announced that Paul Schiavone has been named to the new role of regional head of financial lines North America effective from January 12, 2015. Schiavone will develop AGCS's Financial Lines business in the U.S. He will work alongside Hugh Burgess, regional head of corporate North America; Bernard Poncin, global head of financial lines; and Hartmut Mai, chief underwriting officer for corporate lines. Based in New York City, Schiavone will lead the North American team of existing Professional Indemnity (PI), Directors and Officers (D&O) and Errors and Omissions (E&O) teams in Canada as well as the Professional Liability teams coming to AGCS as part of the Fireman’s Fund Commercial integration. Schiavone joined Allianz from Zurich US, where he was responsible for the Private Equity Practice. Previously, he worked in the London office of Zurich General Insurance as the Global Chief Underwriting Officer for Special Lines.

Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty reported earnings results for the nine months ended September 30, 2014. Gross premiums written for nine months 2014 totaled €4.217 billion, an increase of €175 million compared to nine months 2013 of €4.042 billion. This increase is to a large extent driven by Liability, Engineering, Financial Lines and Allianz Risk Transfer as a result of new business, upsells and captive business, with a significant contribution from AGCS Asia. New business premiums for the quarter totaled €737 million, a 13% increase on 2013 €654 million. The AGCS global combined ratio for the nine months period was 95% compared to 94% a year ago. Operating profit for the nine months 2014 increased to €363 million compared to €342 million for the nine months of 2013.
