T-Systems International GmbH Key Developments

T-Systems Opens New Data Centre in Hayes, West London

T-Systems has opened a data centre in Hayes, West London, to twin with its existing data centre in Slough, England. It has a scalable architecture designed to grow to hyper-scale and is located in the Virtus' London2 Data-Centre facility. This is one of four data centres that T-Systems operates in the UK and over 60 worldwide. The opening of the data centre coincides with the arrival of T-Systems' next-generation Enteprise Private Cloud platform in the UK. The first business customer will start to move to the data centre in early December. The data centres which house the platform offer a high level of intrinsic availability (Tier III) and are combined using a fast DWDM ring. This provides very low-latency and high-bandwidth networking between the two data centres. Both data centres are equipped with all the common carriers, which gives excellent network access both to and between the two sites. These features allow services to be shared easily across the two locations. The new cloud platform itself adds a resilient dual-site storage architecture and a dual-site virtual machine architecture which together provide high-availability disaster tolerant services, network and data access. Add to this high security access control and management to provide industry leading virtual Private Cloud services. With its industry leading SAP-in-the-Cloud capabilities, T-Systems is responding to the current UK demand, driven by the demand for SAP HANA, for a local agile Cloud Solution that meet the demands of the local marketplace.

European Organization for Nuclear Research Selects Huawei and T-Systems European to Design, Prototype and Complete Pilot Phase of the Helix Nebula Science Cloud

The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has selected Huawei and T-Systems to design, prototype and complete pilot phase of the Helix Nebula Science Cloud. The two technology partners will develop the cloud solution based on T-Systems' Open TeleKom Cloud, a public cloud service launched in March this year. This cloud system currently supports the workload of several companies, SMEs and public sector organizations. The 5.3m joint pre-commercial procurement (PCP) tender will be led by CERN and will be co-funded by the European Commission. A total of 28 multinational corporations, SMEs and public research organizations from 12 countries have tendered bids this summer. First phase of the project will include four teams who will compete in providing designs for the cloud and will go through to the next phase, which is prototyping.
