EnterpriseDB's New Postgres Cloud Database Expands Data Privacy with Enhanced Encryption
Apr 14 15
EnterpriseDB announced expanded data encryption for its Postgres Plus Cloud Database products on Amazon Web Services. The new level of security provides greater data protection that governments and many companies often demand in the cloud. In the U.S., the addition of the encryption of data while it is in storage means Postgres Plus Cloud Database is now suitable for use with healthcare applications which must comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA, which governs personal health care information. Because Postgres Plus Cloud Database is available worldwide on Amazon Web Services, the new data privacy measure means companies in sensitive industries globally may be able to tap an enterprise-class, low cost cloud database. EDB's cloud products spin up new databases in separate, private instances, and supports advanced auditing capabilities, meeting the heightened security requirements of HIPAA and many organisations. EDB offers two Postgres cloud products on AWS Marketplace, Postgres Plus Cloud Database Advanced and Postgres Plus Cloud Database Basic. Both products provide specialised support for Postgres while the Advanced edition includes EDB's enhancements, tools and database compatibility for Oracle.

EnterpriseDB Announces Release of Product, Postgres Plus Advanced Server
Feb 11 15
EnterpriseDB announced a new release of its product, Postgres Plus Advanced Server. Postgres Plus Advanced Server 9.4 gives database administrators greater control and expanded options for customization that boost performance and simplify many common tasks. Among the new features in the release are resource management and compatibility for an expanded set of Oracle functions and applications that boost performance and support developers. The release also features JSONB and other advances in the open source community PostgreSQL for supporting applications with unstructured data, eliminating the need for a standalone NoSQL-only solution. Key new capabilities in Postgres Plus Advanced Server 9.4 include: Resource Management - DBAs can now assign processing power by workloads, enabling multiple workloads to run concurrently while ensuring low priority jobs don't interfere with high priority processes. This could help signal the end of some DBAs having to work graveyard shifts when running big batch processes, such as data loads or maintenance that negatively affect business transactions when run during business hours. Without having to worry about performance, DBAs can start doing more of these during business hours.
