Moldova Refuses Privatization Of 13 Companies

The Cabinet of Ministers has dropped the plans to privatize 13 companies. The previous decree on privatization of the state property on the basis of the investment contests adopted on November 13, 2013 has been dropped. Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar noted that the cancellation of the previous decision means that the government will refrain from the launch of the procedure of selection of independent consultants for the privatization of Moldtelecom S.A., Air Moldova, S.A. "Barza Alba", Aroma SA, Tutun-CTC S.A., S.A RED Nord, CET Nord, Nodul Hidroenergetic Costeti, Glass Container Company S.A., Fabrica de sticla din Chisinau IS, Combinatul de hardware produse Cerealiere din Chisinau, and Circul din Chisinau. The stakes will be offered for sale at the auctions at the Stock exchange of Moldova. The Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that the decision to refuse from privatization according to individual projects was made after careful analysis with the local experts and development partners. Valeriu Lazar stated the competitions on privatization can be declared in May 2014.

Moldova is seeking to privatize entities. It has issued a list of companies to be privatized. The list includes Glass Container Company S.A., Barza Alba SA, Aroma SA, Moldtelecom S.A., Vinuri - Ialoveni, Air Moldova, Floare-Carpet JSC, Tutun-CTC S.A., Fabrica de sticla din Chisinau IS, Farmaco SA, Aeroport Catering, Gara Nord, Vibpopribor, Gjuvaier, Moldcinema, Sanatorium Constructorul, Sanatorium Sanatatea, HEC- Nord Costesti Vin Ltd. and Hotel Chisinau. After the approval of the list of the named objects, the process of their privatization will start by means of the investment competitions and the Stock Exchange of Moldova. Valeriu Lazar, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Moldova, stressed that the political decision on privatization of certain objects had been taken before, when the Parliament approved the list of the objects not subject to privatization.
