Towson University President Maravene Loeschke has resigned, effective December 19, 2014, due to her health. Loeschke in April was diagnosed with adrenal cancer and has been on leave from the school since August. A Towson spokeswoman confirmed Loeschke's resignation is related to her ongoing battle with the disease. Loeschke had planned to return to the job at the beginning of the new year. William E. 'Brit' Kirwan, chancellor of the University System of Maryland, named Timothy Chandler as interim president. Chandler has been acting president for the past several months. Loeschke has been president of Towson since 2012 when she replaced Caret.
