Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center Announces Management Changes

Ikenna "Ike" Mmeje has been named chief operating officer at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, effective April 7, 2014. He succeeds Joe DeSchryver, who was promoted to chief executive officer. Mmeje (pronounced May-jay) will be responsible for overseeing the hospital’s daily operations and ancillary departments such as pathology, radiology, pharmacy and plant operations. Mmeje has worked the past seven years at Sutter Health-Alta Bates Medical Center in Oakland, including the past two as administrative director of clinical and research services.

Joseph DeSchryver has been named the new chief executive for Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. The appointment announced is a promotion for DeSchryver who has been chief operating officer since 2005 at Sierra Vista, a Tenet Healthcare-owned hospital. As the new CEO, he replaces Candace Markwith, who is retiring after eight years as the top administrator. DeSchryver will oversee a 164-bed hospital with 800 employees and reported gross annual revenues in 2012 of about $668 million. Before coming to Sierra Vista, DeSchryver was chief operating officer at Tenet-owned West Boca Medical Center in Boca Raton, Florida for five years. In that role, he oversaw operations of the 185-bed hospital and a freestanding diagnostic center.
